Hope, BC
I am curious what the AMD CPU's are getting.
Currently I score 5.9 with my FX-60 at 2.8GHZ.
I am wanting to upgrade.......:(
I am getting 7.9 on my AGP but the FX-60 and the amout of ram I can use I think is maxed out.
I can only do 1GB per slot.

I was looking at the X2-6400 for 130$ and I would like to know what it scores.
I see the 6000+ at 5.9, thats not a huge increase for me to shell out for new ram, mobo and CPU and video card.
I'm confused on what CPU to get, Intel or AMD.

I want fast at everything, but particularly games.

thanks

I have a 6.1 with my AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3ghz
I think most members will tell you to go with Intel. :)

OK I seen this guy has 5.9, I forgot Windows 7 gives me 5.9 at 2.8Ghz
Seems like AMD X2 cpu's haven't got any better, they just screwed us over with 1 pin and added ddr2 support....

Hey Cartel,

If you have got the money and want the speed then I would suggest going for the new intel i7

If money is tighter then a good step would be to go for an Intel 775 quad core eg. 9550 or the new AMD Phenom ll X4 940.

Alternatively you could wait for the AM3+ Phenom ll, but I do not know what sort of price tag they will be carrying.

I think that anything less will not give you the noticeable leap in speed that you are expecting.

I hope this helps :)

Asus M3A

It costs €225 here I will need a new board as well so I am looking at an Asus M3n-HT Deluxe/HDMI for €159 this is from a local dealer that I have been using for years

Yes they are sneaky like that  I would have preferred to have the choice. Still with the 940 this will be history :D

I get a 7.2 CPU subscore with a Phenom X4 9550, but really you shouldn't be making your purchasing decisions on the WEI.

Even though I have a higher subscore than an Athlon X2 6400+ I bet it would do better in most games and single-threaded applications.

i normally pay not too much attention to benchmarks/wei. Lessons derived from the skewing of graphics benchmarks by adding benchmark specific code to the drivers makes one a bit hesitant to accept benchmark/wei results on face value.

I tend to go for everyday usage as my guide.
From my dualboot rig having installed as much of the same apps as supported on both os's (vista sp2 RC & win7) i found the in realistic every day use the only difference is a marked reduction in processor temperature/activity on idle with w7.

Overall feel and speed impression, i'm hard put to pinpoint a difference. They both work fine, the response seems equal even though i've windowblinds running in vista and not in w7. I'd need a millisecond timer to measure the responsetimes, so that's moot.

But then again pcgames irritate the bejesus out of me so gamescores don't interest me.
