Hi, So i bought my system for little over a year ago, been running the 8350 at stock clocks (with auto clock on with max clock to 4.2Ghz)
I'm a bit concerned over only having the 4Pin power connector. The bord for some reason didnt have 8pin cpu power...
The motherboard (Gigabyte GA-970DS3P ) has a 970 chipset, capable of overclocking.
I read about it and people say the 970 chip can overclock but not very much.
Since the cpu has been running nicely at 4.2Ghz speeds. I wonder if i could push it further? How much power could the cpu draw from the board without killing the board or something like that?
Im running a Corsair RM650 watt 80+ GOLD power supply...

Im not really in a sinking boat or anything. I wont do anything that could hurt the components.
Its just that if it would be safe and such it would be nice with the extra power gain..

Not gonna buy a new motherboard since im going to work in the summer, Sell the Cpu and Motherboard and buy an Intel 4790k and a Msi Gaming 7 Motherboard instead

I hope hanging up your harddrives in rubber-bands for noise reasons isn't too harmful for the drives :S, but eh, rather silence than lasting drives.. :|
With only a 4 pin power connector, you aren't going to get a lot of overclocking possibilities out of that board, especially with a power hungry chip like an FX-8350. You might get a couple of hundred MHz out of it, but I would suspect that would be it, and you'll just stress the board doing it.

If you're going to sell it this summer anyway, why OC the rig in the first place? You might wind up breaking the mobo or the CPU and then have nothing to sell to buy your new components.

Remember, if you can't afford to replace it, don't OC it.

Pretty much knew the answer then already.
Im going to sell the board and cpu to my brother who's in need of a new system ( guess my old 3 core Amd phenom 2.4Ghz computer with a gt 430 gpu isnt sufficent for skyrim and dirt 3 etc.. Who could have guessed? xD)
He will buy my friends Cooler master Watercooler for it too so the reason i want to overclock is 1; More performance is something i need, (why would i upgrade to an i7 otherwise?) and see if the system can run stable with overclocks even if the 8350 is run on a complete crap motherboard. So my brother can have the extra power without doing anything particular since he isnt very tech savy at all.. Guess i spoiled him by helping him with everything he asked for instead of making him learn everything by himself like i did..
Good ol' internet free days..

But i guess i'll just keep the 8350 at stock with boost enabled. The 8350 happily runs at 4.2Ghz with the Noctua Nh-u14s keeping it at max 46-54*c (Running the computer with as low fan speeds as possible..)
And i've had no Bsod's because of cpu related problems.
(Still dont know however why only prime cpu stability test make my computer crash when other program's(like Sony vegas) can push the cpu to 100% for hours without any errors...

Don't forget, Prime95 also tests memory. Maybe you have a memory issue?

I know that,
I'm using the Crucial Ballistix Sport 16Gb 2x8 kit.
Its not the best performance ram sure but it works fine for Ram heavy loads.
I looked into this since it's stock running at CL9 1600Mhz, So i Overclocked it to 1866Mhz ( XMP )
This, weirdly enough made my computer able to run Prime95 for WAY longer.
I thought i solved the issue since before i could only run prime95 for about 15Minutes, but now with 1866Mhz it tops 1Hour+
So yeah :/

Edit: Oh, and i should also mention that when prime95 makes my computer get a bsod, it will first say that one or two cpu cores stops, then its just a few minutes until the computer crashes
