AMD ii X4 965 is not compatiable with the mobo.

hey Guys,
I am simply in love with this forum as i have resolved a hell lot of problems just because of this forum.Thanks for that!!

- I have an issue with my system
- I have recently configured this Rig.
- It has the ASUS M4N68T-M LE V2 MoBo.
- and the processor is AMD phenom ii X4 965 Black Edition.
- One Stick OF 2Gb memory DDR 3
- ATI Radeon 6870 Sapphire.

What my issue is ..if i restart my system (and this happens like out of 100 restarts 97 times) the system would be on the black post screen and say that the CPU is not compatible with my mobo.

Then in order to resolve this I have to got to BIOs and turn on all the cpu cores and the unleashing mode under CPU and restart..Then it would reflect that all the **4 cores are active** and then it would work fine..

But why does this happen after every restart.
I thought it was CMOS battery but the date and time and other BIOS settings are fine.

Any Idea??

What is your current BIOS version? I see from Asus site that the latest version 0902 is dated 8/5/2011. You may need to update it with Asus EZ flash. Download the update and save it to a thumb drive, leave the thumb drive in usb slot, then reboot and go into you bios and use the EZ flash option, select drive (usb) and let it do it's thing. This may help out.

Do you have the ACC enabled in the BIOS? This is the option to have all cores enabled if it's not a true 4 core cpu. If so disable it.

It is listed as supported. Lists BIOS 0305 as the first BIOS to support this chip. By CPU? A bad core on the CPU? Thats what I am looking at unless your small PSU can not handle the power draw.

Try locking the first 2 cores under the core unlocker in the BIOS. Then restart. This will alow us to see if there is a bad core. If it posts and you can shutdown and then restart and it works it could be a bad CPU. Then try diffrent conbinations of cores to find, if at all, there is a bad core.

Well..I guess cpu is not bad..because its a new cpu and the problem was from day 1.

I guess it could be related to the PSU
- A have a standard Coolermaster PSU 450 Watts.

do not assume

There is such a thing as doa in electronics, not saying that you have a bad cpu but do not rule it out.

Also depending on what is plugged into your motherboard dictates how much power you need, ie; hard drives,fans,video cards etc.

If you want a basic estimate on wattage required here is one site you can try.

This is not an etched in stone figure,if your MOBO is older than the new processer factor in also slightly more draw.

once you know that your power supply is adequate then you can fault find your cpu issue.

If this is the original power supply then factor in about a 10% loss in efficiency per year of use, if you are a heavy user (on all the time).
