Hey, I bought two new SyncMaster SA100 monitors that for some reason only have VGA ports on them. No problem right? The HD 6570 has a VGA and DVI output so I put a DVI to VGA converter on it. After countless hours of messing around in all the video control panel i can not get the second screen (thats using the converter) to show anything! It isn't even being detected,
anyone know if this because the card just isn't able to run the converter? or is there a solution?
Thanks in advanced!

welcome to the forum :)

have you tried the other monitor without the convertor and or a different lead? just to eliminate a fault.

Yeah both sets of cables and screens work fine coming from the single vga without the converter. As well as the dvi output works without the converter going to a digital screen.

Crzzyhillbilly, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Think you will find that the DVI port on that card is just that, a DVI only port (also known as DVI-D, where one that supports VGA via adapter is known as DVI-I) and doesn't support VGA via adapter. If that is what it is then I think you'll be hard pressed to find any video card made today that supports dual VGA outputs, with most not even having a VGA port on them and only supporting VGA via adapter from one of the two DVI ports on the card.

The only way you're going to be able to run dual monitors on that card is to either get monitors that have both a VGA and DVI port on them, or use a DVI to VGA converter (converts the digital DVI signal to analogue for VGA, and usually cost more than a low-mid range video card).

I can't find anywhere on the card it's self or on it's packaging weather it's a DVI-D or a DVI-I output, but you're saying that the converter is probably not compatible with the output and that's the source of my problem?

What you're using is not a converter but an adapter, big difference. First DVI is a digital signal and VGA is an analogue signal. That adapter only works when the DVI port supports both signals (called a DVI-I port as mentioned above. The DVI port on your card is DVI-D which only supports/carries a digital signal so it won't work with that adapter as there is no analogue signal. For that you need something like this,

Newegg.com - StarTech High Resolution Video DVI to VGA Converter DVI2VGACON DVI to VGA Interface

to convert the digital DVI signal to analogue for VGA. You can read more about the various types of DVI here,

Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As far as those Samsung monitors only having a VGA port on them when the majority of video cards no longer have a native VGA port and in most cases only support VGA from one of two DVI ports on the card. Here is someone with the same problem of running two VGA only monitors on a card with two DVI ports,

Not sure why Samsung is selling monitors that only have VGA inputs unless it is due to a lot of laptops that are out today have a VGA port, and to be used as a second or bigger screen for them (a lot of laptops also have a HDMI port as well, but you can only use either the HDMI port or the VGA port at one time).
