I have HDD monitoring software but my primary drive and a secondary drive I added to my HP PC are not being monitored. All my drivers/firmware are updated.

I have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE with an AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1065T Processor, FOXCONN 2A92 motherboard, with 2 internal HDD: SAMSUNG HD103SJ SCSI Disk Device (C drive) and a Seagate ST32000641AS SCSI Disk Device (media drive)
My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. BIOS Date: 05/04/11 09:22:10 Ver: 6.12

I dont know why these 2 drives arent reporting their status through SMART.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

Which monitoring software are you using? Often software are not capable of monitoring S.M.A.R.T data for drives in a RAID setup - I see the same issue on my RAID0 and RAID1 drives. I assume the two drives are in a RAID from your thread title?

Regards,
Golden

Actually they are not set up in a RAID configuration. The drives are 2 independent drives each with its own assigned drive letter. The tech help at HD Sentinel indicated that the problem with monitoring had to do with the "AMD RAID Controller".

I have 3 external drives that HD Sentinel has no problem with, just my internal drives.

The problem is related to the SCSI device setting. S.M.A.R.T. only works with IDE/SATA/AHCI. I am having the same issue trying to set up a RAIDO array on an AMD-based motherboard. The array is detected by Windows and default SCSI drivers are assigned. So far I have not been able to figure out how to change the SCSI drivers to SATA drivers; as the option is being blocked by Windows. When using Device Manager to try and update the drivers, even when you choose the other drivers from the file you downloaded them to, Windows comes back with "Windows has determined that the best drivers are already installed" and gives you no option to override this. Still seeking a method to change the drivers.

I am sure that someone will likely respond that you have to install the O/S to the RAID0 array and install the 3rd part drivers at that point. Unfortunately, this does not work either as Windows is trying to override those drivers at install and it freezes the install during the 'expanding files' at anywhere from 5-17% completion.

As far as technology and 'work-arounds' have come, it is kind of baffling that no one has figured out how to get past the default drivers Windows installs that make the logical drive detected as SCSI; and find a way to update them. SCSI is the OLDEST of driver sets; and that very few systems would actually still require them! C'mon MS -- Get with the times here!
