As some of you already know, Microsoft is expected to jump over the DirectX 10.1 API, and to release the DirectX 11 instead. This has put quite some pressure on graphics manufacturers NVIDIA and AMD, as they need to prepare their hardware for the upcoming graphics interface. Also, AMD's DirectX 10.1-support seems rather ridiculous, as no such API will be released.

I suppose it's better that Nvidia get DX11 out the way and then go back to developing cards. As that's what they said for not doing DX10.1, they wanted to focus mainly on the GT200s instead, but then for the major nvidia enthusiasts, a lot got put off for not having DX10.1 in their newest card.

DX10.1 was probably the most useless update and a horrible idea. Since it wasn't really anything but microsoft setting mandatory standards such as 4xAA must be enabled under 10.1.

So in that aspect I don't blame nVidia for turning a blind eye to 10.1

i heard DX10.1 was not designed to benefit the gamer, it was to make coding or programming easier (i think) i will chuck the source up when i find it....

DX11 will be a whole new ball game, actually designed to enhance the gaming experience

the only problem with this DX saga is the GFX cards, W7 & vista will be able to utilize DX11 but the DX10 cards everyone just bought wont :(, so if you wanna use this new tech its gonna mean another GPU purchase.

EDIT: i have just found out DX10 cards may be compatible with DX11, well that's a relief, it was from ''the inquirer'' lets hope its true....;)

My card probably won't be in the cards that will work with DX11 but I really hope so.

The point of DX revisions is to improve what can be done visiually, but more so however it is aimed at developer resources/tools. Direct X is an awesome API, if you'd like to learn more as to why (such as why it makes the x360 better than PS3) the check out what John Carmack has to say about it. I think its funny he recognizes this but still refuses to use the latest versions due to portability of his games.

Here's an interesting article reguarding features and compatability:

For the X360 and PS3 I would say they perform almost identical on games from personal experience. Also the screenshot comparisons show PS3 and X360 almost have exactly the same quality. What makes one better than the other would be the online and other features brought by the system.

I disagree with this. The 360 blows the PS3 out of the water on almost every game I have ever seen on it.

If any of you looked up John Carmack, he'd say the PS3 has the potential, but the requires an insane amount of thought. The xbox on the other hand has amazing tools, that allow for a speedy developers.

People will buy whichever console has the games, developers make the games, so in theory that is who really needs to be considered.
