AMD’s Microprocessors with Integrated Graphics Cores

AMD’s Microprocessors with Integrated Graphics Cores to Support DirectX 11 – Slides.

AMD Llano to Feature DirectX 11 Graphics Core, Rumours Indicate

The first microprocessor with built-in graphics processing unit from Advanced Micro Devices will not only feature up to four general purpose x86 cores, but will have DirectX 11-compatible graphics engine and will also be made using 32nm process technology, which should ensure relatively low power consumption.

According to AMD’s latest notebook platform roadmap, AMD will launch Danube platform based on RS880M+SB8xxM chipset with up to 4 CPU cores and DDR3-1066MHz memory controller.

Sabine platform with Llano APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) and DDR3-1600MHz is slated to be out by 2011. Llano is AMD’s 32nm CPU+GPU mobile chip. The AMD SB9xxM chipset enables Sabine platform to support USB 3.0, 16 USB ports, 6 SATA and etc.
Noteworthily, Sabine platform will support DirectX 11 and UVD 3 Technology. We guess DirectX 11 will be quite mature and widely applicated for desktop platforms by 2011, and then AMD will introduce it to mobile platforms.

Whoa, did they say four x86 CPU's, why would they want to do that? Is that a cheaper way to fool people.

I call it the craptop.
x86 cores? FAIL. Beside that, great way to make people pay for worthless integrated graphics.

And still no news from nVidia regarding either Direct X 10.1 and Direct X 11.

me thinks thinks he is reffering to the x86 architecture which is used in all cpus (well maybe except supercomputing [i wish i had a cray...] x86-64 as you can see is mainly a superset of the x86 architecture and is not the full blow x64 as IA64 was...

wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
This is not going to happen until 2011 so this isn't very exciting.

Intel has already integrated the GPU (45 nm) with CPU (32 nm) on a single package and that is coming out later this year.

blah, they'll slow down the whole system... for this type of CPU you'll need a special kind of motherboard i think... i don't get it what's with all this integration? separate cards work better...

(I hate Intel CPUs, *changes it with an AMD Processor* mwuhaha; geez, now i have to change the kernel too...)
Hehe, I've bought a PC just for testing purposes. And I like it! ^^
This way you have to buy a whole new CPU and Graphics chip when you want to upgrade. You can't just upgrade a given component.

Granted they will be better matched to each other than trying to find a hit or miss combo with seperate CPU chips and Video cards, but I will be willing to bet they will cost a good percentage more than stand-alone CPU chips now and will not be as easy to over-clock or tweak their bios'.

Designed obsolesence, that is what it's called. Make the consumer keep buying new stuff, even if they don't really need it.

This will not be for Desktop PC's it will be developed for Notebook PC's and as far as I know not many people will be upgrading parts in them including CPU's and GPU's, maybe RAM but that's about it, so anyway this should be good for Power usage and give a much better Notebook experience.
