Amperage question.

I want to put my slim USB DVD drive on an USB hub, but my hub did not come with a cable.
I thought oh well, and grabbed a used Nokia charger which didn't work. turns out I need an adapter that is 5V and minimum 2A. I found an adaptor that is 5V but 8A, but I'm not sure if 8A may be bad and kill my drive.

You can make it work, but might be cheaper to just buy one. 8 amps dc is an aweful lot. if HD needs 2 amps I would not

I have a perfectly good brand new hub, that has a standard 5v roind plug for power.
I'm just using 8A as an example I found on a quick search online. I'll probably end up with a 4A or whatever I find that is over 2A, but I want to make sure that it won't affect my system.
that, and over 2A is preferred because I'm going to have more than one thing plugged in that needs power.

The number is just the max you can draw from the unit doesnt matter how high it is over your equipment it wont damage it as your units will draw whatever current they require and not have all the juice forced into them
