An Email from Microsoft

To tell you I was very surprised when I got an email response from Microsoft. The original email from me was concerning what I considered a bug in Office 2010 Click-2-Run. Check it out:

Me: Bug 2726, Application (Office 2010) is very slow at doing anything for the first time

The response:
Hi,
My name is Kirsten and I will be working with you on bug 2726. Can you please tell me if you are running office 2010 C2R or Office 2010 locally? To distinguish between the two, please go to applications and tell me if you have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office Virtual in the list of programs.
If you are running Office C2R, the performance issues have already been resolved in a later build.

I have emailed Microsoft on numerous occasions and this was the first email/bug they actually responded too...was quite a shock

Microsoft changed since the Windows 7 and office 2010 project came up...

It's new crew doing a great job...

It seems it was the 'other' bug they were interested in, eh; maybe that's the trick, finding a bug they don't already know about.

I've had answers from Microsoft for each bug report I've entered through connect on Office 2010. I think you'll find that they will at least acknowledge all reports on a limited technical preview, where they will not always acknowledge general reports

I think you are right, it seems they have changed their approach in many ways that makes it easier for end-users to really get answers.

I remember back in the 90's when you finally could find somebody in M$ to answer your questions it never left you satisfied, with an answer. If you told them about your Windows crashing every time you did this or that, the default answer was always the same. "This is not a bug. It is a feature. Nice you called, have a good day."

Zidane, I hope you keep us posted. Would like to know how this issue goes forward.

On the subject of "it's a feature not a bug" one of the answers I received did follow this line ...

I reported that I thought it was a bad idea to have the technical preview default setup take over all the office file associations as the technical preview is "not for use in a production environment".

The reply I received was that this was "by design" :sarc:

Now I agree that this is good practice for a RTM/Retail product I still feel it is a little dangerous with a preview product where all the existing documents load with a pre-beta product.
