an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken

I own a toshiba satellite C655-S5061 with win7x64 sp1 ultimate installed on it. My internet (wired) connection used to work fine until yesterday. Troubleshooter says "an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken", Tried a repair install, updated drivers, reinstalled drivers but of no avail. The ethernet cable when connected to other laptop works fine. Any solutions?

Do you have a spare ethernet cable? Test it with yr laptop, does the same issue persist? If it does, then yr ethernet port might be faulty.

Yup, just had an Ethernet cable fail on Thursday. It was only a month old,
Got it from my cable guy, when he added an outlet for me.
