Solved An unknown device appears

Slartybart : I uninstalled GPU Tweak with revo. And I think also all files related to the software. As for HWMonitor, both have always been with the version without installing. When I started with version 1.22, used it in parallel with the GPU Tweak. Maybe it's a conflict ?

I am now exploring the pc with antivirus, I can be doing my stuff normally ?

Probably not a conflict. I saw that you tried HWMonitor 1.22 and 1.24, then stayed with 1.22 - I suspect that might be where cpuz123 comes from, not GPU tweak.

If you could post a list / search for cpuz - that would help too - thanks

I mentioned USB because often when there is no PCI identification it ends up being a USB device with poor plug-and-play. It is just good to eliminate that as a possibility right off since it is easy to do.

Antivirus found nothing on the C drive.

I already checked the BIOS = Legacy BIOS is enabled.
Something interesting I found :

1)It is easier to interact the bios with the mouse.
2)As for RAM, appears in 1333MHZ ¿?

Thanks, that helps me understand how we got to USB devices. I also like the "easy to do" things.

Legacy drivers are not plug-and-play, are they? Maybe that's your point

Any thoughts on just removing the device - I don't think it's integral to the machine.

Just leave your usual devices connected. It shouldn't cause any problems at all, I did the same a couple of weeks ago and managed to remove a mystery device and have had no problems since. Worst case you just enter BIOS and re-enable Legacy USB but it won't come to that.

Try that first while I look into your RAM.

It looks like your RAM supports XMP profiles, I'm hitting a bit of a snag on your motherboard though. The ASUS page for your motherboard suggests it supports XMP:



However, having read through the manual I can't find anything pertaining to XMP profiles. It suggests you have to manually set your RAM timings.

   Warning

If you're not 100% certain of how to do this then leave things as they are.

Have a look through your BIOS Advanced Mode and see if you can find XMP profiles. If you do there should be two pre-loaded options of Disabled or Profile #1. Disabled will keep your RAM at the default 1333MHz, if you load Profile #1 that should set your RAM to 1600MHz. The screenshots below are from my BIOS and may not represent the layout/options you have in yours, they're there for reference only.



Once set, check your target timings for DRAM have changed accordingly.



If you can't find XMP within the BIOS then I wouldn't worry, you'll never notice any difference between 1333MHz or 1600MHz anyway, and even benchmark results can show only marginal increases in performance.

reboot and see if it gets reinstalled (I do not believe it will be installed after you reboot)
or
Use your backup and restore

edit: Thanks for posting all of the device screens. I tried to find a command or utility that would dump the information, but either I couldn't figure out how to isolate the unknown device in a list, or the information was not presented using the tools I tried.

If ESET didn't find anything, then Malwarebytes (Mbam) probably won't either. It won't hurt to run Mbam though, it's fairly quick.

To answer your question, yes you can install and activate Windows as many times as you want with a retail box version, on one machine.

I did, and did not show any message after restart. The list does not show any unknown device.
Although no longer appears, I do not feel quite relieved Because i not know which was the origin of that thing: by software, hardware, or virus.

So ?

1- If it was a virus, would be only affected the C drive, right ? (Since I have only the image of the C drive)
2- If it was a software, was originated by using HWMonitor ? (1.22> 1.24> 1.22 : version without installing)
3- And hardware, perhaps by a recent windows update?
