This update improves the stability and reliability of Windows 7 and of Windows Server 2008 R2.

To install the correct version of this update, you must know whether you are running the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Windows 7 or of Windows Server 2008 R2. An update is available to resolve issues that affect some computers that are running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. These issues are reported by customers who use the Error Reporting service or Microsoft Customer Support Services.



This update improves the stability and reliability of Windows 7 and of Windows Server 2008 R2 in various scenarios. This update resolves the following issues:

• When you view a PDF file that was created by using a 2007 Microsoft Office system document, the PDF file is displayed on the screen correctly. However, when the document is printed, some characters are missing. This problem occurs in fonts such as Calibri, Cambria, Courier New or Gabriola, in which characters such as "fi", "ti", "fl", and other combinations are frequently presented as ligatures.
• In certain scenarios, an Emergency Alert System (EAS) message does not automatically tune to the appropriate channel in Windows Media Center.
• You connect a secondary monitor to a computer that is running Windows 7. When the computer resumes from hibernation, a black screen is displayed.
• In certain scenarios, the Windows 7 Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) diagnostic information settings are configured incorrectly for Windows Explorer. Only those users who are enrolled in the Windows 7 CEIP will be affected by this part of the update. This update limits the diagnostic information that can be collected by the CEIP.
• You put an x86-based computer that does not have Physical Address Extension (PAE) enabled into hibernation. However, it does not enter hibernation correctly. When you try to resume the computer from hibernation, a black screen is displayed. This issue does not affect x64-based or Itanium-based computers, or computers that have the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature enabled.
• A problem in Windows 7 affects the playback of certain media files in Windows Media Player, when Windows Media Player is started from Internet Explorer. Only those users whose media associations were changed incorrectly will be affected by this part of the update.
• On a computer that is running Windows 7, you use Windows Internet Explorer to open the certificate enrollment Web page and to install an end entity certificate. However, the installation fails. This issue occurs if the certificate chain for the new certificate cannot be built, or if the root certification authority (CA) has not first been installed in the Trusted Roots on the computer.

That's an invalid product key error from what I can find online. Make sure yours is valid and you are not using any loaders and such

Thanks for the heads up though ussj, much appreciated. Its a nice one too coming in at over 20mb and it seems to have smoothed things out nicely, especially with WMP.

will stop a lot of the "black screen" posts we have been seeing.

I installed it via WU when it hit a few in. earlier before i posted this. No issues so far.

I had success with this update on one computer but on another it has failed after numerous attempts both through Windows Update and the standalone version. I even went as far as to remove AVG anti-virus and Malware Bytes Anti Malware, Ran SFC /scannow and disabled startup services.

The error message is 80071A90

After a rebooting to continue the update I get to a black screen with the Windows Logo along with text that states applying update "filename xxxx 50 of 1057" or something like that. It then goes to the login screen saying updated failed and system being restored.

Seems like an important update and its frustrating it won't install.

I have noticed that this particular update fails only on 7600 builds that have used the activator crack or something similar.

(e.g. replacing tokens.dat and pkeyconfig files and validating windows with 7100 keys)

Therefore , I strongly suggest to the users running 7600 to buy the so much appreciated product.Buy it, even if it was the only legal software you ever bought, cause this time, it's totally worth it.

0x80071A90- ERROR_TRANSACTIONAL_CONFLICT

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

I remember having this issue with Vista once, I just cannot remember how I got it fixed. Might be by cleaning the update cache.. don't really remember so I might be wrong.

Installed it succesfully after sfc /scannow slmgr /rlic and activating windows 7 again then it installed ;o!

Here is a fix for this problem

Solution: My wife had this same problem with 27 updates that failed with error code 80071A90 . It turns out that it is all about your internet connection. It has to be an Ethernet connection and not a WIFI connection. This is because WIFI in many situations does a reset during the download and that causes errors during the update download. Temporarily changing to an Ethernet connection solved the problem along with only doing a few (sometimes just one) updates at a time and not all 27 updates at once.
