I am interested in using media centre that comes with Windows 7 but a lot of my media will not play via media player so i am sure as a result will not play in media centre as i believe that it uses media player. Does any one know of any codecs that i could download that would allow this media to play? Links would be handy. :D

Thanks again.

Luke.

What build are you using? Later builds I believe added support for Divx and Xvid along with other codecs. What encoding are you using? I really haven't found much WMP can't play, other than MKV

Im not sure to be honest. I only installed windows 7 RC yesterday. So all the defaults will remain. Im pretty sure some of my media is AVI. Might have a couple of FLV files which i have got from websites such as youtube etc. Just googled avi and it states that it will play in media player as windows developed it. Is this true? If this is the case i have some software that can convert media formats so i could try changed them to avi.

Well, avi itself is just a container format, so the codecs used could several different ones. For things like FLV, I use Handbrake to convert to a more usable format and they play just fine. You might be able to convert your unplayable files with handbrake or vlc if vlc can play them to something recognized by media center, though converting a lot of videos can be a pain.

I don't know too much about codec packs, but there's something called CCCP that MIGHT help, but I'm not completely sure, 95% of my video files worked by default in win7.

Thanks for the info. I have handbrake and that works really well. I have the entire series 1 to 7 of family guy which was all in flv format so i used handbrake and converted them to avi and then again to mp4. They work fine on media player. I placed the mp4 files onto my iphone well not all but some and that also worked just fine. thanks again. :)

+1 on that, i used to use K-Lite but now it's Shark007 all the way :p
K-Lite is a great codec pack, i used to use it on my VIsta 32 bit until i installed 7 64bit. It's time to change!

Does k-lite work the same way as codebrake? Im not sure i have ever heard or used it. Im a big fan of easy and simple to use programs im a fan of the wizards that come with many applications. Could say i am lazy :P
