And Yet More Problems....

Hello,

I am running a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 Laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7800, @ 2.60 GHz, 4 GB RAM, NVidia Quadro 140M, SoundMax Integrated HD digital Audio, Bluetooth.

I recently swapped the deliverd hard drive to a Seagate 250GB 7200 RPM drive, and loaded Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

I am running Norton 360 4.3.0.5, PCTools Spyware Doctor 7.0.0.514, Microsoft Office 2007, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Quicken 2010, and other applications.

Since I did this rebuild, I have noticed some random freezing. Particularly when I boot up, and do not use the computer for a few minutes. In other words, I power on the computer, it goes to the login screen, I login, and walk away for a few minutes. When I return...the computer is frozen. Interestingly, if I don't walk away, and begin to use the computer right away, it works fine, stays fine, and is very stable.

Sometimes it will freeze upon shutdown, and I will have to hard power button off.

I run through all of my drivers, and have updated as needed. I have also turned off some of the Startup Services, like Google updater and some of the Lenovo Tools stuff.

I am wondering if anyone has any insights into any of this. I am beginning to consider switching to Apple....

I am seeing the following critical errors (checked the log for the past 24 hours):

 • Bonjour Service, Event ID 100
 • Application Hang, Event ID 1002
 • Quickbooks, Event ID 4
 • VSS, Event ID 8194
In addition to this...I now have a horizontal line about a quarter of the way up my screen on the laptop.

I am really getting tired of this.

Please, if anyone has any useful insight, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Marc

LInes on screens, freezing!

Go to search, by the start button, type device manager. In device manager make sure that your graphics card drivers are working and that they are up to date.
Make sure that you are not overheating

If that does not work, this may:
Download and run malwarebytes, a full scan after you update
Run antivirus scan
Check memory with memtest86
Make sure that you are not over heating.
Try in safe mode; report back if it works properly.
Try a clean boot
Make sure PSU is working properly
If overclocking, restore to original
Test hard drive at company website.

Check back and I will get you some links that you can use for the above

This seems like a lot, but go slow, ask questiions and you will be up and running.

Ok...so I don't know what is going on. I followed the above instructions regarding doing a 'Clean' install....and all my problems have miraculously disappeared, including the horizontal line on my screen. My Lenovo T61 is as stable and fast as ever. I really don't know what to attribute it to.

I really don't know what the cause of the problems were. Thanks for the instructions to follow, though.

Marc
