I'm getting the same random "Windows Explorer" clicking noise described below on my new Windows 7 HP laptop.

Sounds like a quiet, Windows Explorer clicking noise in the background with no discernible pattern.

I tried all the Control Panel tweaks suggested in prior thread but (like the prior poster) nothing has worked.

I also have listened to libraries of problem hard drive noises online but the noise sounds nothing like a mechanical problem. It sounds exactly like a very quiet Windows Explorer click.

Any advice is appreciated, but all things considered I'd prefer good advice.

Thanks!

i recently got this sony vaio with windows 7 home premium. i have noticed a annoying problem from yesterday. i keep getting the clicking sound that comes when you open a windows explorer folder even if i am not opening any folder. yesterday it was there, today morning it was nt there, now again i am getting it from last half an hour. it keeps coming like every 20 sec. why so? what to do? please help..

i know i can shut the sound off by going to control panel, but that way the problem which causing this wont go away..
