Whenever I switch on the computer I get a Windows failed to start screen with the usual options of inserting installation disc and repairing or start in safe mode etc.

Allways highlighted is "Start Windows normally" and the countdown timer.

If left untouched it either loads normally or reboots and then restarts normally.

I have run the installation disc and repaired with the end message "no errors found".

Any ideas?

Consider installing a boot loader and see if it fixes it. Like EasyBCD. Download EasyBCD 1.7.2 - NeoSmart Technologies

I am not promising it will work, but it is pretty simple to try.

I believe you use it first from inside Windows and then it will work after boot.

I am using it to dual boot 7 and Linux even if EasyBCD says for Vista only. I use the 2.0 Beta.
