Should I buy another 1Tb HDD to add to my existing configuration? I need space badly as I do video editing a lot nowadays. I was thinking about the power draw from PSU & heat generation.

That is a nice case. According to CoolerMaster specs it has a front 120mm fan that pulls air in over the hard drive cage and exhausts it out the top and back. That is a good design for use with multiple hard drives. It would be a safe bet that the case was designed to accommodate all the drive bays occupied, but only if all optional fans were installed.

As far as heat is concerned I would suggest going for it and then monitoring temps closely. Add more case fans if needed.

As for power, hard drives use it but not a lot compared to other components.
To be sure, use this power calculator:
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
Enter all your current components, check the wattage, then add another hard drive to see how it changes.
Use 50% for "Capacitor Aging" in order to assure long term reliability.

Hope that helps!

dorian hawkmoon,

I don't see a problem with adding an extra drive either for heat or power, if you we're running on the edge you'd be having issues and your PSU is a better more trusted brand. These days you can score some great deals on multi TB spinners and I would look to a 2-4TB drive then use the 1 TB as a back up drive for hyper critical stuff. I would also not look to a green drive as it's only spinning 5400 vs 7200 rpm's and then also at least 32-64mb of cache.

a 2TB is a good size and does not cost a lot more than a 1TB. And I would not worry about the power.

Your video card requires 450w min. power supply. You have a quality 520W power supply. I also don't see a power supply problem. The odds of using your video card 100% load and 2 hard drives at the same time is slim. That being said; if you did have to buy a new power supply I would suggest something in the Seasonic 650W range.

Layback Bear has a point that you could be cutting it somewhat close if all systems are grinding away at stuff in which case you could get a 2-4tb whopper and swap with the current 1tb and place the 1tb in a two or more drive enclosure and add another 2-4tb later and have expanded redundancy and back abilities.
