Another BEX64 Error

Windows works fine and has been working fine, but a small nuisance has recently developed. When I empty the trash can and then right click the desktop to refresh, I get an error saying Explorer has stopped working and needs to restart. The screen then flashes and is OK. I can't be positive this is the only case, but I know I can duplicate the error when I do this.

The error persists in safe mode--I do not get a message but the screen takes a few seconds to refresh.

I have read that a virus scanner can cause this. I recently loaded ClamWin but didn't like it and uninstalled it. I also get the error even when my regular Bitdefender is turned off.

I ran "sfc /verifyonly" from command prompt as another thread suggested but there were no errors.

Could this be related to DEP? I recently moved pagefile.sys to my second drive and this worked fine, but when I had the error I moved it back with no effect.

I don't seem to have a system restore point previous to the error--don't know why.

I appreciate any suggestions. :)

Make sure you make a system restore point now so you can at least get back to that if you try any upcoming suggestions...

Can you explain in more detail what you mean with a refresh of the Desktop? Why is that needed? Doesn't the trashcan property screen that you probably use to empty it, dissappear by itself after choosing to empty?

I know you did not have a full BSOD... but could you upload the info according to http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html anyway? It gives us all the info we need, including what drivers and software you use...
Thx!

Thanks for responding. I included the info you asked for--let me know if you need anything else.

I guess it is just a habit I have to refresh the desktop every so often (rt click desktop and hit refresh.) I noticed that when I empty the trash and refresh I get the error. It takes about 5 seconds before the error shows, and there are no other symptoms with the trash icon or otherwise. I also seem to get the error sporadically without reason, and I only mention the trash/refresh combo because I can always duplicate the error that way. If I don't hit refresh after emptying the trash I don't get the error and everything is fine--until I hit refresh.

Other than being a nuisance, I'm concerned the error might affect my 3D rendering software--especially when some of the renders take a few hours. But so far that hasn't happened.

I haven't updated my drivers in a while, but Win7 has worked flawlessly up till now. Some of the software I use most are: Vue8, Poser7, Magix MEP17, EffectsLab Pro, PSP9, IrfanView, Chrome, Zumocast, Openoffice.org, CCleaner, iTunes.

Thanks

For some reason I can't read all of these files... but for now that doesn't matter.
You have a couple of 2006 drivers that need updating and a error message on a incorrect install of a ps/2 mouse. Should be able to see that in your device driver screen?

Please update these and get rid of or disable all devices that have a yellow warning triangle next to them in the devices properties...

Also check your windows update status, your log mentions multiple update failures.

Have you checked if minidump creation on crashes is on? I'd have expected dumps, looking at the error reports of app crashes...quite a few of them.

Set it on by:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).

MvdB, sorry for the late reply. I was really sick for a few days.

I executed the BSOD zip report again, hope I did it right this time. I see in the HTML report that there is an incorrect mouse setting, but the device manager doesn't show it. There was one yellow warning triangle for an unknown device--this was an old intel webcam I was testing to see if it worked. It turns out there weren't any drivers for Win7, but I still had it plugged in. I uninstalled the device and unplugged it. There are no other warnings.

I went to Windows Updates History and every update was installed successfully except "Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2160841)". This failed multiple times but was eventually installed on 12/7/10. I remember having trouble with it but I can't remember what I finally did to successfully install it. I didn't see any other failures.

I turned the minidump creation to on.

I don't know where to look for the 2006 drivers that need updating? I did update the nVidia driver.

Still having the same problem.

I remember that I have Macrium reflect and made a copy of my C drive a few months ago. I don't think anything much has changed since then except for iTunes, and the computer wasn't giving me problems. I will install the last image if you think that would be best.

Thanks again. :)

I'm sorry but there is still no dump in there..

Check this please for minidump creation...:
For dumps to be produced. . .

- Page file must be on OS drive
- Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
- Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
- Set page file to system managed, OS drive
