I am running 64-bit Win7 and it appears that drivers are not available for the video card I have. I don't play games, just use Photoshop and watch videos. Since I may get a new system next year, I'd like to spend under $100. Any recommendations? i was thinking of a BFG Tech BFGE98512GTGE GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card, at $80.

Specs:
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium NVIDIA nForce4
BIOS ver. 1303
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 2.4GHz Socket 939

WD Caviar 320GB SATA2

Unless you are looking for something to tie you over until you rebuild, given the rapid advances in gfx (all) components, I wonder why you would buy today for next year's machine.

Get a 5000 series Radeon, if you're waiting till next year. Sometime late this year the lineup will be refreshed and they will have much more powerful GPUs then (Southern Island).

Why not just stay with Vista drivers? If I understand the ATI site, Catalyst 9.3 and older support the X700. I'm not clear on the differences between Vista (WDDM 1.0) and WDDM 1.1 (Win7) drivers, but the WDDM 1.0 ones support Aero Glass, so you'd get the full function of the Windows 7 desktop with them.

Thanks. I'll try the Vista drivers.

re: waiting for the new build, 'next year' could be 18 months.

Check Nvidia.com for GeForce 9800 GT driver. I have 8800GT, and it's operating normally under Win7 x64... Make sure you check Nvidia.com.

Read soon2bexpat's post again, and check the system spec listing button. His current card is an old Radeon X700, and he (she/it) was asking whether a 9800GT was a good upgrade. No worries about that card having Win 7 drivers.

I would say yes and it can be found on sale sometimes aroung 89.99. Just also make sure your Power supply is up to the task but the newer XFX "green" 9800gt's don't even require additonal power to the card. Fabe

Right... sorry, didn't read it well enough (was sleepy).

X700 should support Win7, right?
