Hello.

Some of the forum topics did not covered my problem so i though of starting a new one.

I recently bought a Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB SATA2 internal HDD.
I connected it properly, but it is not detected by any of my IDE controlers. (IDE controllers all set to AUTO, and nearly everything is enabled in BIOS to detect the HDD).
I tryied various combinations to check if it is HDD or OS error.
I concluded that it either has some missing drivers, or the HDD is dead.

I can hear the drive spinning, but I get no response. It wont detect it anywhere. Nor in Computer Management, nor in BIOS.

In the WD site, i couldnt find the drivers. Only a program that makes diagnostics, and even there, it wont find my new Disk.

In two days i will go back to the shop I bought it and ask them, but before that, I would like to consult you first. Maybe if someone had similar issue and solved it could help me.

hi wizardcia,

Chances are your mainboard doesn't support Sata300, only sata150.

On the drive or in it's little manual you can see how to set the jumper for sata150.

Don't worry about sata150 being theoretically slower.
Your drive in that system will never come even close to the 150mb/s boundary.

Good luck

Your board supports sata 3.0gbs - If the drive is unavailable in Windows 7 try a bios update firstly to the latest then if that doesnt work contact support for your motherboard and hard drive - if they cant help contact wherever you bought it, and then return it.

Driver Page with link to Bios :

ECS Web Site

Have you initialized the hard drive in disk management -
Control Panel - administrative tools - computer management - disk management

To initialize new disks
In Disk Management, right-click the disk you want to initialize, and then click Initialize Disk.
In the Initialize Disk dialog box, select the disk(s) to initialize. You can select whether to use the master boot record (MBR) or GUID partition table (GPT) partition style.
Note : The disk is initialized as a basic disk.

Additional considerations
New disks appear as Not Initialized. Before you can use a disk, you must first initialize it. If you start Disk Management after adding a disk, the Initialize Disk Wizard appears so you can initialize the disk.

I returned the HDD. It was problematic. I didnt got any information about what was bad in it, but it was replaced by another, same model, yet working.

So if anyone has any similar problem, he should also consider that the product might not work.
