Wireless connection not working on Laptop

EDIT: My LAN right now is connected . The internet works flawless , I can't seem to get Wireless Network to work . This Laptop is an emachines M5405 . As you can see the wireless icon isn't there. Here is an image provided

I don't readily see a website to download the drivers, so connect with their free chat and ask how/where to get the correct drivers.

eMachines Support -

I had this Laptop for awhile now and I believe the warranty has expired . In order to chat with them I have to be under warranty. Is there a way I can check just incase it didn't expire yet?

Isn't this the same driver as this post

While it is true the same items in device manager are (were) showing for both computers. I doubt that the drivers would be the same.

You are correct. Those do seem to cover the wireless network adapter for the M5405. What do you see under the Network adapters branch of device manager?

The network adapter shown in that screenshot is for the Ethernet connection.

You should have at least two network adapters listed in that branch:
one for wired
one for wireless

Look at you Acer and you will see what I mean.


It is possible that the adapter has gone bad, that it will not turn on... so it cannot be found. If the laptop has an external switch to turn off "wireless" - then those switches typically only turn off the wireless radio and not the entire adapter.

Is there an external switch to turn wireless on and off?

I know what you mean UsernameIssues , there is suppose be two adapters , one for wired and the other for wireless . I believe the drive for the wireless network is damaged . When I go to device Manager all I see is one Network Adapter and that is the wired connection. In the Image provided below , it only shows one Network and that would be the wired Network. I couldn't find a switch radio on the laptop. I looked on both sides and there was nothing

EDIT: I found the user manual and the key functions to use to turn on the wireless network was FN + F2 . I tried and nothing happened.

If I were working on this, I would take the laptop apart and make some measurements on the tiny board that holds the wireless network adapter... but you might not be setup to do such work. If you want to use the laptop via wireless, then you could try a wireless network adapter that connects via USB.

Yeah Unfortunately I don't have an experience in that area.

EDIT: There is no other way to solve this issue then?

In XP you have Add Hardware in Control panel which will walk you through discovering the wireless device if it is installed and working. Check the switch is on as suggested.

If you can get an unknown device to show up it's make/model can be traced using Hardware Identification

I'd also be plugged in by ethernet cable and pulling all Windows Updates down as it might show up there.

The wireless interface is both 802.11b and g compatible, but no bluetooth. I have an 802.11g wireless router and the laptop just connected when it turned on and set up. The only thing to be aware of is that the bios has a setting that can turn off the wireless transmitter; so if it doesn't work right away, look in there first. There is also a function key for turning on/off the transmitter. The only reason to do this would be to lower the battery drain when using it on battery where there is no wireless network available.

EDIT: I have Tried F12 , F10 . I can't seem to find the function to take me to the BIOS MENU. Never mind I found it , however just to make sure would this be the option I have to enable.

I was able to get into the bios menu

Leave "Network Boot" disabled, that's for booting to a remote PC on a network, say, in an office building.

Try the "Restore" on the RF Power Control, it may be radio frequency.
