I searched the forum and elsewhere and tried a few things but so far no luck. Many seem to be having slightly different problems than I am experiencing.

I consistently get the "program not responding" message in the title bar. Usually in a browser. IE8, Firefox and Chrome. Chrome sometimes pops with a box asking me to wait or kill the browser.

MS Office 2010 public beta freezes the most and for the longest periods of time. Here its with mouse clicks and scroll bar action using Excel. A big spreadsheet with lots of functions and cell calculations is almost unusable.

No BSOD ever since the W7 upgrade.

This was a clean upgrade from the original XP os. MS upgrade advisor (yeah I know) didn't complain when I asked it to scan for 64 bit compatibility. I did disable the game port on the sound card. I also installed four new 1 gig dimm chips (system max) but the bios is only using about 3.3GB ( I need to figure that problem out too )

I run Norton 360, thought maybe the problem was there, nope.

Double checked the video driver, it's current, but beyond that I will need assistance beyond my capabilities.

BIOS was the only version available when I did the upgrade, and it was updated previously when I did XP SP3.

My specs are listed in my user info, but please ask for any more info I can reply with to get help. I will need assistance in deciphering event log info.

A link to a post where someone figured this out will be great also. Thanks in advance.

Did you ever test your new Dimms with e.g. Memtest. The problem is too erratic to suggest an easy solution.

I would go to event viewer (type eventvwr in search) to the windows log>application tab.

Look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) thaat say app hang, app crash, etc. when you find them note the Event ID and source codes and relay them to us.

let us knwo if you need help

There is one critical error in the admin events summary: Event ID 41, Kernel-Power. I think that was when my neighborhood had a brief power failure a couple of days ago. There are numerous "errors" listed below there, most dealing with service control manager. There are no critical errors under the windows log>applications tab, just errors and info events. I have never cleared any of these log files.

Also I'll need to swipe a blank cd from one of my sons tomorrow to run memtest.

I appreciate you help so far.
