Another Strange Internet Connection

So I upgraded from Vista to Win7 Home Premium and recently I have been having connection issues with my router and to the internet. The strange thing is that when i turn on my computer, everything works fine, but after a while, i lose connection. If open a Browser i get a 'page cannot be displayed' and a Exclamation mark pops up in the 'network and sharing center' and the computer shows im not connected to the internet anymore.
Turning off the router does nothing. I have to restart my computer and then the router and the internet is back. However, after a time, ranging from 30 seconds to a couple hours, it dies again.
I found that the only thing that helped was when i turned off my wireless card and restarted the router for the internet to connect correctly. When i had my wireless connection on, restarting my router didnt change anything.

I have a wrt54gs and my laptop has a dell integrated wireless card. I tried updating the drivers and still no change.

Ive read previous posts and Ive tried the things should have helped.
1. I turned off ipv6
2. changed my group to work.
3. Ive tried to turn off my firewall (Mcafee) and it still persists.
4. I read about openDNS and put it in the primary and alternative thing but I dont think i did it right...

Im new to these forums and these sorts of issues. If anyone can help it'll be appreciated. its very frustrating as I dont know reasons behind it.

were the updated drivers specific to Windows 7 or generic drivers or those of Vista? What security type are u using and can u try an alternative type. Any problems with a fixed wired Ethernet connection (I suspect all is fine there? )

There were no drivers for win 7 and apparently vista drivers work, so i used that. I updated the firmware of the router as well.
The security is a WPA-Personal.
The ethernet is the same as the wireless. Once the router stops connecting, the ethernet is the same.

Even as i type this, the internet crashed, and i had to restart my wireless card to regain connection.

In a way the fact that it also affects the Ethernet connection is a good sign, in terms of problem solving. I understand the wireless being flaky but the Ethernet too? Were there any problems with this router under Vista. I know that some routers are not compatible with Windows 7 but very unlikely to be a Linksys:confused:

I assume that its Win 7. Because every time I turn off my wireless it comes back, but when i leave my wireless on, the disconnection persists. Under Vista there was no problems and im not sure what in Win7 is making this all chaotic.
The router I use is compatible with Win7.

I just turned off my wireless and after 10 minutes it came back, it abruptly keeps disconnecting to the internet whenever my comp (win7) is on the network.
