I just got my new computer with W7 Home Premium 64 bit the other day. It is a custom built computer. The wirless card is detecting the router because it shows me the signal strength but it wont connect. It keeps wanting me to reset the modem and the router but I know those are good because I am typing this on a wireless notebook running XP.

Yes, the shop I had build the computer had it online at the shop wirelessly as part of their testing. To my knowledge, all drivers are up to date. The wireless adapter is on too.

Markbob... is it Mark or Bob? LOL!

I need some more info to begin to help you solve this issue...

  1. What wireless NIC? What manufacturer and model is it?
  2. What is the name and model of your router?
  3. Something easy is to check if you have WEP or WAP security setup on your router. The shop may have had an unsecured network, and yours may be secured... but Win7's wireless network manager should have asked yu for a WEP or WPA key.
  4. What do you see when you open the Network and Sharing Center, send me a Snipped image please.

Well at the first website I visited seems this is a known issue between this card and Win7... I googled "Trendnet TEW-423PI windows 7" many people are apparently having issues with your wireless NIC!

Here: Window 7 Trednet Wireless TEW - 423PI

But then there's this contradictory info from MS: Windows 7 Compatibility Trendware Trendware TEW-423PI 54Mbps Wireless Network Adapter

Go ahead and send me the screenshot if you can, but Trendnet is not a major player in the network HW industry... I might swap the card out for an alternative NIC.

What does the shop that built PC have to say? I'd ask them to swap for another name brand card that supports Win7 64bit!

I spoke with the shop and they are having me bring the tower back in so that they can figure it out. They said if the nci needs to be replaced for compatability they will take care of that. If it turns out to be a problem with the OS and they successfully plow through it I will make sure to find out exactly what they did so I can post it here and hopefully help others. Thanksfor the help.

Hi all, i'm having the same problem wit a Realtek 8185 pci wireles adapter.
Actually it seems caused by an update.
I resetted the OS to a previous point and resetted the router and it works.
Now i've disabled all updates until i found the wrong one.

Did you do a Realtek NIC update?

I just got it home from the shop and they were able to locate drivers for the NCI that I couldnt find for some reason. I am online and doing fine except that I am getting some really slow download speeds for some reason.

Hmmm, if they had it working at shop before you left, what changed on the drive home and then when you set it up?

I'm assuming you have rebooted to check if DL speed picks back up? Your not running a bittorrent client or similar on startup are you?

What im thinking is possibly the Manufacturer's drivers and Windows drivers are conflicting?

The shop is running two separate wireless networks. It turns out that one of them my computer will run fine on with no issues, one of the techs had it up and running logged into WoW for about 3.5 hours. On the other network, he would have it on and get the high latency dcs that I am asking about in my other post. IDK if its a router issue or what.

Just throwing some ideas out there... Is there a difference between the 2 wireless networks @ shop? For example, is one an 802.11 g and the other 802.11n? Different brand routers? Different encryption; is one WPA and the other WEP? why is one a strong connect and other weak?

A very weird issue for sure, please keep us updated.

And as UberPhilf said it does sound like a driver issue... or it is tied to drivers for your wireless NIC, so keep a close eye on manufactureres site for 7 driver updates!
