Thanks Panais :)

I know I'm going to sound like such a noob here, but how do I know which driver is the one I need? I mean obviously I need the Wireless Lan Driver (USB) but I don't recognise either of the manufacturer vendors and Acer's Hardware Detector only shows the VGA manufacturer, any ideas?

The download page for the Guru3D Driver Sweeper programs you suggested contains text stating the program has been discontinued, or I am doing something stupid?

The device that uses the faulty driver is a Belkin Wireless USB Network Adaptor, I've tried using both Windows Vista and XP drivers as opposed to the Windows 7 one I was using, no such luck though. I can't remember where I found them, but returning to Belkin's driver page, they use one driver for all 3 OS's now.

Visiting Atheros's driver page, can only find compatibility for up to Vista, no 7..

I'm fairly sure that weird message in the folder was saved onto my machine by a friend some time ago as some cheap joke, however how it made itself into that folder when I uploaded is beyond me, and even weirder checking properities it states date created was the 08/07/2011, when I created the folder. Either way I ran a full virus scan, only returning tracking cookies, so I think the document's harmless.

But cheers panais, I appreciate this :).

Ah, that makes more sense.

Belkin : Support F5D7050 Wireless G USB Network Adapter - Drivers

Is my USB adapter, the 4xxx driver. I've downloaded and tried that driver, still no luck though :(.

I'm going to Device Manager, and uninstalling and deleting driver software. However when I try and select the new driver from the Belkin site to install Windows tells me I already have the most recent driver version.

I noticed that the 4xxx driver is in setup format.
FIRST create a recovery point,
Then try to completely uninstall the old software/driver from the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, then install the new driver.

I've just tried that, and installed the setup file downloaded from the Belkin website. The driver from Belkin states it's version 1.0.0.13, but device manager is reading version 2.2.0.27, the original driver that you suggested cause the BSoD. I'm all out of ideas .

You mean you already have that driver?
Or that is the driver you need?
If you already have that driver and caused bsod, you must remove that driver and use new one.
Did you tried with windows update?
Did you tried with ur computer update adviser or update utility?

The current Belkin driver version: 2.2.0.27, is the driver I *believe* to cause the BSoD through your guide. However I have attempted several methods of uninstalling 2.2.0.27 and then reinstalling version 1.0.0.13 from Belkin's site (Belkin doesn't provide any driver above version that's dedicated to my network USB adopter), which is meant to be stable. But no matter how I unistall 2.2.0.27 and then install 1.0.0.13, Device Manager always reports it's version 2.2.0.27.

Basically I think Window's keep reinstalling version 2.2.0.27, with no roll back drive option.

Try that,(and again before you try that create a restore point)!!
Disable Automatic Driver Installation In Windows 7
Go to Start–>Search type in gpedit.msc
Click the file to open the Local Group Policy Editor and show Windows who is in control!!
You want to go here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Device Installation. Click on the subfolder Device Installation on the left and on the right side you will see the possible restrictions.
Right Click on Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings and edit this option, set it on ENABLED,apply,ok.
Reboot Windows and enjoy its inability to pollute your system with its standard driver.
(With that, you can remove any driver and the windows will not reinstall anything)
Open gpedit.msc again and revert the change so you will be able to install your driver.

This is all so much hassle for one bad driver.

I've decided to steal the wireless USB device from my old Windows XP machine and try using that on my Windows 7 one.

Hoping this will fix it once and for all, I appreciate all your help though panais and I'll report back if not even this fixes it. :)
