Solved Antivirus Software necessary?

After reformatting and reinstalling Windows with the help of my bro, he told me it would be unnecessary to install an antivirus program if I did the following...

1. Set up an admin account and not use it.
2. Set up a normal account for normal use.
3. Rely on admin permission requests to warn me of potential virus content.

In essence, if I am just careful and don't download anything that would affect my registry or require admin permissions, I would be ok. Is this true?

 No, that is definately not OK! Admin "permission requests" do not warn/stop/prevent of viruses or other malware.

Do yourself a huge favour : ignore your bro's "advice" and download and install MSE. Also, make sure your Windows Firewall is turned ON.

No offense, but perhaps you are better off getting your PC advice here.....:)

I'll take that as a resounding "no." One problem might be is that he's an Ubuntu user. I think their security works a little differently. Well thanks for the answer.
