Sure, my favorite is Microsoft Security Essentials.

MSE is very good for laptops, because it doesn't use much resources.

There is no need to pay for anti-virus products these days.

Another good one is Avast.

IMO, no. I will not recommend that move. Using 2 AVs will create conflicts between each other and slow down your system performance.

You can always use this combo below. FYI, I'm using this combo ATM and never had any problems so far. Well, this is just my recommendation.

MSE + Spybot + SuperAntiSpyware + Malwarebytes

And a little bit of common sense. :)

Hope this helps.

Why no? I had those 2 AV's running on my system and never had any problems + along with other programs in my signature. Never had any Slow downs whatsoever,

just took awhile to download updates at times being on dial-up.. it's just for extra security.. a lot of people on this forum use Avast + MSE and know it wont conflict making it a good combo.

It is not recommended by most forums. Try googling for answers. As i said, this is just my opinion. :) If you feel that having 2 AVs can give you better protection and will benefit you, then do so. ;)

heh those 2 AV's are fine (not trying to argue btw) :) but yeah anyway i coulda sworn the thread had a different Name for it.. but yeah if you want a 2 av like that id use it on a desktop PC.. not laptop imo, i would advise MSE or Avast on a laptop just one.

my bad =)..i believe it had a dif title thread or im losing it anyway read my previous comment.

Getting a little annoyed to these threads though...

don't think they even read:

http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/72070-whats-best-anti-virus.html

Top AV's users recommend are AVG,Avast,Avira,MSE etc (Freebies)

Take a pick burnhell69

I'd choose MSE for a lappy.

Cheers

If you want free, good detection (remember: nothing protects 100%) and low on resources then Avast! 5 is your best bet.

I've seen a few that have.

Although for the most part, running 2 AV's is not recommend like is stated, MSE and Avast can run side by side with little or no performance issues, or conflict. Back around August or so, Avast ran tests to make sure MSE could run side by side with Avast 5. I myself have tested them both on my system at once for a while, with no noticeable problems.

Up to you if you wanted to do it that way, albeit a little overkill IMO. You could certainly test it out yourself, and come to your own conclusions.
Avast or MSE and maybe a couple manually run antispyware scanners, run every once in a while, like Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, should suffice.

Yeah They're/they have free edtions.

For MSE go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

For Avast:

avast! Free Antivirus - Download Software for Virus Protection

Go for which you like being Avast with a little high detection rate then MSE, MSE having lesser false positives. there both fast - mse being a little faster.. so i'm going to say download both (install one at a time) to see what one you like. :)

The idea is that, in case a newbie to the forum does post this question, we point them to that thread and cut down on pointless threads.
