Any interest in an easy way to move your profile?

When I wanted to move some user profiles-lock,stock, and barrel, including AppData-I had to do some legwork. Have now moved admin accounts and user accounts from C to D, thus freeing jp much space on the C.

To all:
I'm still doing some testing. I had a problem on my laptop and I'm not sure of the source yet. I need to do some further testing to make sure that the cure is not worse than the disease (or at least not the cause thereof).

OK didn't find them but will try to relocate them.

As a side line, Windows 7 Backup and Recovery has saved me more than once. This feature of Win7 is much more flexible than some would ever believe.

Ok. I've located one of the URLs.

If you read the blog there, then be sure to read thru all of the comments. You will find that there are those reporting success and those reporting failure. If you decide to experiment with moving your profile, then first, use Win7 Backup and Restore to 100% backup up everything, including a system image backup. That system image backup will be a lifesaver.

Read the article, and honestly, I have to ask the question why go through all of that? A user profile that is that large I would think most of that stuff is documents, pictures, etc.

Just offload the files or start saving directly to another drive like an external or internal. I just don't see the value in going through all of that.

Separate restore/backups for your system and for your data are a convenience.

A backup of 30G (and consequent restore) of 30G is faster, easier than backup/restore of 300 or 3000 G. There are many factors to be weighed when configuring, backing up and restoring system. No one shoe fits all feet.

For my needs, and the needs of many, having the boot-system partition separate from the data partition(s) is a definite advantage, and sometimes a necessity.

The procedure for moving the majority of your user profile folders to another drive has already been well-documented by Brink in a tutorial on that subject. However, the procedure for moving an entire profile-with all folders-in its entirety to another drive is a more arduous procedure.
