Any way to add Remote Desktop (host) to W7 home?

Any way to add Remote Desktop (host) to W7 home?
I upgraded to home premium and now found that I can not remote desktop TO this pc
Obviously I could upgrade from home to PRO but didn't know if I can just "add" RDP to this home PC at all
I realize there are 3rd party software vendors I can use (think I saw VNC, mesh, go2mtg, etc)
Any thoughts, suggestions?

Hi there
NO -- this is a BIG disappointment to zillions of people who get computers loaded with W7 Home from stores.

It's almost a universal requirement these days that people want to access HOME computers from the Internet / Work etc etc.

There are "3rd party options" like "Logmein" etc but some work places now block these sites and ports and aren't in any case a true alternative for RDP.

There were "get arounds" in Windows XP HOME (XP PRO always allowed RDP as a Server rather than a client) but they seemed to have locked down W7 a bit better now.

I'm sure allowing RDP in W7 Home wouldn't have been a big deal for MS -- it's certainly IMO needed.

For Linux VNC is a good solution -- whether you could use this on Windows as a server I don't know.

You can use VNC on a Windows box.

Blocking access to home machines is becoming much more prevalent in business. This is to curb bandwidth, and not let employees skirt web filtering systems and so forth. Plus it can be a security risk as well. Lots of companies won't allow you to VPN in from a home machine as they cannot control it's security and instead provide you with a laptop or a machine to remotely connect from. Why should they allow access via RDP to a home computer then?

I'd be interested to see if that works but I'd be hesitant to try it myself, especially on a general release version.

If he wants to keep it simple, another easy package to use is Teamviewer.

I use it to support my friends and family.

UltraVNC is also a free option. Basic program, however requires a bit of know-how to get it running.

Team Viewer is good, but it requires someone at the keyboard on the host end to allow the connection at the moment the remote client tries to connect.

For me, this is not much help if I want to randomly access my home PC from work. I can't seem to train my dog to grant the connection for me.

VNC is ideal for me because it is a host server, and runs in the background. It does not require someone at the keyboard in order to connect on.

I have not used VNC in a few years but remembered it was very robust, secure and really fit the bill. Now that I discovered Win7 Home Prem does NOT have remote desktop server, I will be trying that tonight.
