Any way to fix my daily crash in Win 7?

I downloaded Win 7 in hopes of 1) fixing my daily crash in Vista within 20 minutes of booting; 2) playing some old video games in XP mode; 3) using Bitlocker on my USB memory sticks, and so on. So far, not a single one of the improvements I hoped for has worked and the daily crash is exactly the same, except maybe a little faster. Also Itunes 9 won't install on either my Win 7 desktop or new laptop, but never mind. I'll go after one problem at a time here. Also my Windows Media Player is listing CD tracks in Chinese, but never mind that either, I just thought I'd mention it.

So this time: Any ideas about why, in Vista before and now in Win 7, my computer crashes every day without fail, usually within five to twenty minutes after booting, then hardly ever crashes again that day after a reboot in normal mode? Sometimes it crashes as soon as the welcome screen, other times waits for a while.

This only happens on my year-old HP desktop. When I first bought it with Vista it was crashing three or four times a day, but it soon settled into its reliable once a day.

Thanks to all. No blue screen, just seizure. I tried Tepid's idea, found I had a Seagate drive, but at the Seagate website it's not clear which diagnostic tool to download. Given how it happens I suspect my problem software somewhere--maybe the BIOS, but I dunno. Again, the seizure can happen anywhere from the welcome screen to 20 minutes later, and has only once or twice in a year happened after a Normal restart (after I switch the computer off for ten seconds). And it happens just the same in Vista or 7.

Most of the time BSOD is also related with Memory sticks. Since you had same issue with Vista and Win 7, so I would suggest clearing RAM connection chips. Sometimes the connectors get moisture. How many partitions do you have on your hard disk. I noticed that If I had more than 5 partitions on my HD then I used to get BSOD on vista. so I limited my partition to be max 3 on each HD and then I never had anymore problem.

Do you have any messages in Action Center? I am not sure if Action is part of all the Windows 7 versions. Anyway, problems and failures usually show up in Action Center

For you HDD, you want Seatools for DOS.

You need to run Memory Diags.

You need to run both sets of Diags.

Hardware failures do appear to be Software related. and You are not going to know if the hardware is fine untill you run diags. Eliminating Hardware is the first step in troubleshooting this type of problem.

You will spend hours trying to fix an issue that turns out to be bad HDD or Ram or even a Bad RAM Slot or HDD cable.
