Any way to get tray icons to stack up in windows7?

The first attached pic is the effect I'm currently trying to achieve.

If I simply drag up the task bar, it does stack up, but you lose a ridiculous amount of space... as seen in second attached pic

I'm hoping to find a way to decrease the margin size for the tray icons, tried to use Windows Style Builder to edit the .msstyle files, but currently no luck in finding that parameter...

You can get all your tray icons to stack vertically by dragging the taskbar to the vertical edge of your screen... :p

That would be cool if someone could figure out how to do that without changing the size of the taskbar. I'm not sure how though. :|
