Hey folks,

This morning I cannot open any messages or folders in Hotmail. It was working fine last night. Everything looks completely normal (although I have noticed that the ads on the side are no longer loading?) and messages appear in my inbox as normal. However, if I click on any messages in the inbox or try to select a different folder at the left, there are no error messages or popups, all that happens is literally nothing. The message looks like it is selected in the inbox link when I click on it, but it never loads...the browser never even shows that the folder or message is loading. Browser is Firefox 12. It works fine in Internet Explorer (which I loathe).

I tried it on three completely different computers, two running Windows XP Professional with SP3, one with Win7 Ultimate 64-bit with SP1, all three running Firefox 12. Hotmail works fine with all of them in IE, but not Firefox. Also tested Firefox 12 on a Puppy Linux 5.28 machine with Hotmail and that surprisingly worked fine.

I've tried clearing the cache and cookies completely and Hotmail will still not work properly...I seem to remember something like this happening before, but I cannot remember how I fixed it...all other sites on all the computers work perfectly, only Hotmail is acting weird and has been doing so for 4 hours or so now.

...anybody have any thoughts?

EDIT - I should also mention I've done no updates, installed no addon plugins, or altered anything in any way since it was last working correctly on any of the computers.

Hi Darkstrike,

I just tried online Hotmail using Firefox 12, and I don't have any problems.
I would try disabling the add-ons, and see if that helps.

I normally access my mail using Outlook, and there are no problems with that.
I also normally use Waterfox, and again no problems there.

Hope this helps,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've tried disabling plugins, etc. numerous times and Safe Mode as well, and I still receive the same issue on all three computers. I've also tried clearing the cache and cookies numerous times as well even though my browser install is always set to clear cache upon exit. I've also reinstalled Java, Flash, and Firefox numerous times as well....getting pretty frustrated...never have this issue with Gmail!

Looks like I am not alone here either from the research I've been doing as a few others have posted about the problem starting again for them in the last day as well:

Interesting...
But at least you know you are not alone with this issue.
Hopefully MS/Firefox will sort this out somehow...maybe due to different Servers...

(Sorry for the double post a few minutes ago by the way - my internet connection had a hiccup!)

Different servers maybe was my thought as well...here's hoping they find a solution! I might ask if we can leave this thread open for now in case anybody has a similar issue? If it begins to work again (because at this point I have tried EVERYTHING I can find / think of to fix it...:sarc:), I will post a response saying so :)

Understood about the double post...

fyi: In your posts, you can click "Edit", click "Go Advanced", and then "Delete Message" - you should be able to get rid of the dup...

I think leaving it Open is not a problem - it is an open issue...I'm just a member here...

Solved - even in Safe Mode, Hotmail was not working correctly (when all plugins should have been disabled) however, the culprit has been traced to the Foxit Reader plugin....once manually disabled, Hotmail is back to working fine! :)

Haha...trust me, I'm glad too! No idea why a plugin for a PDF viewer program would affect only one specific webpage about something completely unrelated to PDF viewing, but :p

Well, I had this problem recently, too, seems to be related to Fox It Reader 5.3, 5.1 works fine with the firefox plugin... I can confirm is a bug with the Foxit plugin for Firefox...

If you can, revert back to 5.1 line, if not, disable the goddamm plugin from Foxit Options...
