Anyone gotten spam after the security update at Windows Live?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

But I have two email accounts, both are live.com.

Account nr 1 is an email account I use for personal things and never use it to sign up, for example, forums.
I've never gotten spam in that account.

Acccount nr 2 is my "spam" account where I sign up for forums and such, and in which I get spam, about one a day. And I hardly ever sign up for any forums (this forum is the latest one for a number of months).

I had both linked together with no spam in account nr 1; still don't understand why they took that feature away and think the reason is bs.

Probably just over a week ago I couldn't sign into my account unless I gave Microsoft my phonenumber, for two-sided verification (I think it's called).
Well, luckily I haven't gotten any spam phonecalls nor sms; but I've just recived my very first spam into account nr 1.

I'm pissed off!

Only reason I can think of is the one above; but I'm technologically minded so my reason is perhaps flawed.

But can anyone tell me the reason?

I have never used my phone number for anything on line and that includes doing anything with Microsoft. That sounds very very wrong to me. My email accounts don't have my phone and don't need it. I really believe you are being suckered.

Rule of the thumb. Never give personal information of any kind on the internet and that includes you mail account.

Hi there ... I am not sure what features you have available to you in your Country .. But where i am my phone is ex directory .. And any one i call i with hold my phone number ..

My phone number is in the phone book but I have never had to use it online to verify anything.
