Anyone having problems with Java applications?

In your case, I do not know. I know for a fact that the fonts are the problem with my java because when I deleted them, they worked fine - when I put them back, Java freezes again. If you have only 207 fonts, then I guess you have another problem.

I solved my java issues finally. I uninstalled internet explorer and disabled it. Now my java apps run fine, just got to get a newer+better browser

Ok, that sounds interesting. I will try uninstalling IE8 since I don't use it anyway.

By the way - the font problem might have something to do with the following fact: Among my installed fonts there are many many arabic and asian fonts (I have no idea why they are installed). Default in Win7 is that such fonts are not visible in applications. But Java seems to ignore this setting so all fonts are displayed. Maybe this worsens the problem.

Install or update Java this way:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u17 allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Programs and Features remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u17-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

I don't think than these fonts are the problem in my computer y have equal than you, to much arabic and asian fonts and actually, like i said post before i don't have java problems, i think that you problem are diferent than me and another user... Afterall unnistalling the IE8 fix your problem? maybe it's good if you announce you experiences for user that don't have too much fonts or unnistalling fonts don't solves their problems.

pauls01, thanks for proving mi solution, and comment your experience (if you need these fonts always do you can search a font administrator than install the fonts temporaly and unnistall them when it close), and thanks to jacce to post the corrrect java unnistallation/installation metod.

Thanks for your help, I will try this. But since I have a clean Win7 Installation and directly installed the newest Java version (without any old versions installed before), I don't think that this is the problem.

I tried uninstalling IE8 - unfortunately it had no effect!

Spock - I can't see how uninstalling IE would possibly affect Java. As for your fonts, just go to C:\Windows\Fonts, select all, and then hit delete. Windows will stop you deleting any system fonts so you should be left with around 200 fonts. That was not my idea - it seems to work for "Atlas elite".

As for your fonts, just go to C:\Windows\Fonts, select all, and then hit delete. Windows will stop you deleting any system fonts so you should be left with around 200 fonts. Since I only have 207 fonts installed I don't see the point but I can do it (but not at work, so give me some time). I reinstalled Java twice before, so it would be a miracle if this helped but I will try it and report here.

Short update: I did not modify my fonts folder since I am kind of afraid what might happen to my fonts and - more important - I don't believe that my fonts can be the problem. I only have standard Windows 7 and MS Office fonts installed, nothing else (just 207 fonts...). This can't be or shouldn't be the problem.

BUT: I could solve the problem in the following way: I started the Windows 7 compatibility center (in control center) which is intended to run "older" programs. I adjusts compatibility of particular applications. I just selected one of my Java applications and let Windows 7 look for a solution. It changed compatibility to Windows Vista. And now everythink works.... I can't believe it's so simple. Still I thinks it is very bad that Java seems to cause such trouble in Win7 (or is Win7 the problem?). But now I can work with these applications again. Very nice feature, this compatibility center!

SUPPLEMENTAL: I tried this with another Java application. Worked again, this time Win7 choose WinXPsp2 compatibility. The Java GUI looks a bit different in now in these applications, but who cares. Works perfectly now!

Question is: can anyone conclude what the problem really was/is? What exactly do the compatibility changes affect? The GUI looks a bit different now - could this be the problem? Does Java has problems with the Win7 GUI?
