Put Microsoft back on track and recover from the Vista negativity? I think it will. I love Microsoft, I remember Windows XP resurrected the name after poor Windows ME ruined it. I wonder how it will affect Apple and how they will bash Microsoft once 7 is out?

Well after the Vista release that never got any legs, I am sure win 7 will managed to maybe get through and end up like the good old stable XP which has been about for years now...

Back to the Win 2K days.

I expect you'll have a mix, with some consumers saying it doesn't "look" any different from Vista, and others very happy with it seeming snappy and stable. Given it doesn't "look" different, I suppose you could even have some people griping why they had to pay extra to get it.

But the big thing is ultimately going to be if it's adopted by large businesses (and government). Most probably won't bite right away, but barring any huge disaster within the first 6 months or so, you'll likely see some start moving to it and yes, I'd expect it to boost Microsoft's image.

Don't know that it will significantly chip away at the Apple markets in academia and entertainment industry, but I don't think they'll lose ground, either. If anything, if they provide good pricing to students, you could see more move over to Windows 7.

I've got to admit I would love to have an iMac at home as well as a PC.

From the research I've done .. the Macs have smoother work flow when doing web development. But this could be just me !

The Problem is .. it is soo expensive

Look @ how many posts per day we get about BSOD's and Win 7 crashing etc etc....

The thing with those posts is for every one of them, there are so many running Windows 7 without a hitch. You're not going to hear from the people running it fine, it will be the people having problems that seek out the forums and post.

After vista can win 7 fail? Sure there will be growing pains, some ppl will not change over from xp, and some will go back. Corp world is still running winnt, w2k, and xp, but sooner or later it will need the newer apps.

The real test for Ms is going to be when win 7 has saturated the environment what are they gonna do with win 8. Another vista, or another win 7. Keep your fingers crossed, I am

Everyone say's Vista failed.. I ran Vista Ult x64 from day one with no problems.. No BSOD's ( except when overclock.. ), no crashes... no freezes....

How has Microsoft failed with Vista? Because manufacturers could not get their act together?

Vista was an exceptional OS for me.

Vista removed a couple of user interface tools that I depended on in XP ….
So I really don’t want to have to use it and perform all the workarounds.
It just isn’t user friendly.

I see that W7 has removed even more ..
And there are some that don’t work as one would expect .. or work at all.

I’ve been trying to figure out what Ya’ll are so excited about …
And why the majority of the posters in this forum like it so much.

I can understand that it may take awhile for software and manufactures to catch up ..
But why is Microsoft removing many of the good tools ???
And who has been testing W7 at M$ ???

Some of my friends who have looked at W7 think it’s a money making marketing ploy…
And some of the user interface dissatisfaction with W7 is beginning to show up on the internet.
I’m waiting to see if the bunch of updates scheduled for October will fix anything.

It’s going to take awhile to see what the average computer user or the corporations think of W7 ..
But I’m betting W7 is another Flop .. And the Mac Ads will have even more fun with it.

Time will tell .. And I’ll be watching from my XP

It looks like W7 fixed the #1 problem plus todays PCs are more powerful and have more RAM than in 07. For the #2 problem the verdict is stll out. Right now we are all operating with a pre-release and we have to make a little allowance for that.
In my mind, W7 is Vista - as it should have been on Febr.1, 2007.

Agree on the internal design point. They shook it up quite a lot. I guess they had to do that to get were it is now. But the external appearance is 80% Vista. And that is good in my book. Too bad though that they dropped a few functions that I was using a lot - but you can't win them all.
