I still use my beloved 14" Acer Aspire with W7, but was curious if anyone has been able to find a way to install W7 on new machines. I know hardware has changed and is supposedly incompatible with W7. I'm not talking about a virtual box or dual boot, but completely remove W10/W11 and install W7.

In looking into that, I came upon Flashboot (& Flashboot Pro) FlashBoot: Install Windows 7 to New Laptop or New PC... which is really the old slipstream-to-ISO your OS with drivers, etc... created on a USB flash drive... then the flash drive purportedly installs W7 to the machine.

Further down the page it mentions some potential limitations with nVidia integrated GPUs, but says discreet nVidia or integrated Intel GPUs work fine. And there are other UEFI issues (will need a W7 patch) but it sounds like if you jump through all the hoops, it's possible.

Anyone tried this on a new machine?

Used FlashBoot Pro to install Win7 on a friend's ASUS Gen 9 laptop. His machine has no CSM option in the BIOS, so FlashBoot Pro was used to patch the boot/install ISO for EUFI.

We eventually found a suitable GPU driver for the Intel graphics adapter and it all worked ok, including the NVMe 1Tb card we put in the socket for the C:/ drive.

I've not tried this beyond Gen 9 laptops.

NOTE: the Pro version of FlashBoot is not freeware.

Yes, Pro is $29.95 as of this date, and I personally would not choose the free version as the Pro has stuff I'd need.

Sounds like it went about as expected.... some hoops to jump through but successful in the end.

In reading through the PDF manual I see Pro also installs a W7 clone to new hardware, which is the option I'd use since I would not want to rebuild my W7 system from scratch. I will keep it all in mind for when I'm forced to get a new machine, cause I am personally never moving past W7 and my needs don't require it.

Thanks for the input (and an ASUS is what I'd likely get when the time comes, so that was doubly nice to hear).
