Hello,

Have a new iPad3 and a Cisco/LinkSys Router.

Router Model is an EA3500, and has the extra USB Port.

For anyone having an iPad, and a Router with a USB Port, would like to ask:

If I plug a USB Memory Stick, or an external HD, into this USB Port, how can I
have the iPad access what is on them, and hopefully download some photos, etc., that is on them (to the iPad) ?

If it can't be done, then what is this USB supposed to be used for ?

Much thanks,
Bob

Hi Robert, the USB port on the EA3500 certainly is for sharing storage (or printers) across the network so you're absolutely fine there.

I take it you've already tried accessing the flash drive with your iPad but are having problems? Now admittedly I don't have an iPad but after a quick Google it seems that you can use the app 'FileBrowser' to specify remote storage options.

From here, I'll hand over the thread for someone who knows the topic better than I; but in the meantime give the above suggestion a go.

Well, I do have an iPad and my router has USB ports, but honestly, it never occurred to me to access a USB flash drive from the iPad this way ... iOS certainly does not offer a native way to do that, so you need to find an app, perhaps the one oxymoron02 suggested will do it for you.
