Solved Anytime Upgrade won't install!

I just built a new system (my first) and didn't realize the memory restriction for the Home premium edition so I just purchased the Anytime Upgrade to the Pro version. However, no matter what I try it gives the lovely old "Installation Unsuccessful" message. I've got the OEM version so MS want me to pay them to figure out why they can't create a robust upgrade. In hindsight I should have just bout the full Pro install, but the $ hole just keeps getting bigger.

I've tried all the tutorial here, done the restart trick, but to no avail.

So I turn to this wonderful place for any other words of wisdom.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Did you do a a full clean install?

What memory restriction are you talking about? The only memory restriction in win7 is that 32 bit win7 cant use more than about 4gb, theres no memory restriction difference between different editions of the same bitness.

Well according to this site each version has a different maximum RAM usage

which matches with my system information showing that it recognizes the 24GB installed but tells me on 16GB is usable.

Theog - I just built this system and was the first time I installed 7 so windows should have taken care of the SSD alignment. I also read in several places in the forum that all of the 7 version are identical but with some of the features locked. So doing a fresh install won't really help. At least as far as I understand it, but I could be wrong.

Right you are. Probably the posters didn't notice that you have 24GB of RAM.

You'd also need Pro if you upgraded to a motherboard with 2 physical sockets. (That's more obscure than the 16GB limit.)
