Solved AOMEI or other partition tool to restore MBR

Now that I have my nose up close to the screen, there is something else.
When I ask to perform the fix that chkdsk asks for and say ok, a screen comes across too fast to read that says something about " locking." Locking is the only word I saw before it winks off.

It appears that AOMEI wants to perform a function it can't complete.

Soon I will mark this solved. The quesion was made to AOMEI which problems are described above.
It was not worded well for what I needed.

I moved on to using the MBR restore routine using the Windows Repair disk I had in the tool box.

Any readers, make one of these as a first step.

Simple Windows repair routine failed. I've never seen it find and repair anything yet in years
of watching it waste my time (much prefer old install repair on XP.)

After the repair routine ran during which I saw a lot of disk activity but it gave usual error.
I used the final routines from howto geek using FIXMBR and FIXBOOT at the command prompt.

Other advisories are to run Check Disk again and SFC/scannow at command prompt.

Sevenforums surely has this but the howrogeek came to hand first and easiest.

I can come back for discussion on AOMEI to find out about that disk lock problem.

Will mark solved after I let it run a day or two. And run a clone backup again.

Marked solved. System is stable after doing the routine at howtogeek shown above.
I will return to AOMEI top explore it in the future or for future needs.

I have a brand new seagate 2tb external drive which developed a damaged mbr. Running Aomei rebuild mbr at the moment. Been running for 2 days now, has found 1902 bad sectors so far. How long can I expect this process to run? Anyone had a similar situation?

That doesn't sound good-checkdisk can take a long time if there is a lot of damage.


You could use the manufacturer program to tell if the disk is bad and needs replacing. Seagate, Western Digital, etc have free tools for that kind of thing.

If it has found 1902 bad sectors, your disk is dying. As it's a brand new Seagate 2tb external drive, send it to be replaced in warranty.
