Apple immune to Windows 7 impact, analyst says

I never see a reason to buy an Apple computer. Same hardware in a fancy shell and a different OS and they can charge way more for it. Does your harddrive stand to live longer because it is in an Apple computer over the same brand in a PC? I don't think so. ;) ;) :)[/QUOTE]

I see your point, However Mac is a far more stable OS, and virtually impenetrable by most viruses, hence no need for AV software,I have been running Dual Mac G5's for 3 years + at my Recording Studio it has been running solid for the entire time never a Hard Drive failure, never any freeze ups,and it has never been shut down, try that on any pc, no comparable system on PC,"Knock on Wood", I also run a PC at my Home Windows 7, 64 bit OS and I have replaced my Hard drive twice in 2 years, and lost everything due to HDD failure, plus spent thousands on software upgrades and AV software, so i have spent more in 2 years on my home system than the initial $6,000 for my 2 G5's This seems to speak volumes as far as the differences between Mac and PC

Apple buys their HDDs from the same vendors as PC mfrs so how can HDDs in Macs be less prone to failure? HDDs are mechanical and WILL fail sooner or later. If Macs are so dependable why does OSX automatically attempt to configure an external drive as a Time Machine backup destination? Only someone who doesn't do regular backups loses everything due to HDD failure.

Mac guys always throw out the virus card, truth is, I run AV software (AVG, free) on my Win machines but have never gotten a virus so the fact that Macs are supposedly immune to viruses doesn't hold much water for me.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
It was a hard life lesson to learn for me. I just couldn't even buy a Mac. I just plain wasn't cool enough! Which hurt cause I was really workin on my coolness. I even showed up in my best designer dudes and drove my BMW and still didn't qualify. Turned out I was wearing white before Easter and my BMW was to old.

After 14 year of windows only, I bought an mac book pro 13" one month ago and i am very happy with it. If you got the money too spare, go for it, you wont be disappointed. :)

Btw no need to get religious here. There is enough room for more than one computer/os in the world. No need to bash the mac (or windows), enough fanaticism in this world... :(

After spending some time in both camps it seems to me that the average Win user is more knowledgeable than the average Mac user.

True, yet the average Mac user is so much more apt to pontificate about his platform's technical superiority even based on such limited knowledge. Always tends to annoy folks with someone doesn't know what they are talking about but will not shut up.

I see your point, However Mac is a far more stable OS,
Based on what data? I've not seen even pre-beta versions of Windows 7 destroy a users entire profile directory.
and virtually impenetrable by most viruses, hence no need for AV software,
Impenetrable or untargeted? Mac Virus FAQs: Do You Really Need Mac Antivirus Software?
I have been running Dual Mac G5's for 3 years + at my Recording Studio it has been running solid for the entire time never a Hard Drive failure, never any freeze ups,and it has never been shut down, try that on any pc, no comparable system on PC,"Knock on Wood",
I'd suggest that the limited usage pattern of a computer used only in a recording studio may render your comparison, albeit anecdotal, invalid.
I also run a PC at my Home Windows 7, 64 bit OS and I have replaced my Hard drive twice in 2 years,
Blame the hardware manufacturer not Windows.
and lost everything due to HDD failure,
Blame yourself for failure to use the included backup software not Windows.
plus spent thousands on software upgrades
since you only use the Mac in the recording studio this comparison appears flawed
and AV software, so i have spent more in 2 years on my home system than the initial $6,000 for my 2 G5's
Which is used more?
This seems to speak volumes as far as the differences between Mac and PC
Speaks more about your different use of the two systems actually.

And this is related to the OS how? Aren't you aware that HDDs are the same in Macs and PCs? Was it Bill Gates fault you didn't bother to back up your data? I have one Mac in my company, and it's drive failed. If we didn't have the users data backed up, could I bitch and scream at Apple and Steve Jobs for this?

No, it speaks volumes towards backing up the claim that the typical Mac user knows FAR less about computers and how they work then they think, and yet it doesn't stop them from entering debates about the two platforms.

I think what point he's trying to make is that this breaks the "Macs just work!" myth.

Lol at your Arguments. Here is my perfect laptop - a Mac Book Pro laptop case - with a copy of Win7 x64 in it, and also NOT bought with all the *crap* tech that comes with a mac... their computers have like 50% less then what my laptop has, but costs like 75% more...
