Apple Is Now Bigger Than Microsoft: The Most Valuable Tech Company

Apple is now bigger than Microsoft. Apple's market cap passed Microsoft's today, just two months after edging under Walmart. The latest showing from Google Finance puts Apple's market cap at $225.98 billion to Microsoft's $225.32 billion.

All the news is about Google, and Apple slides into the lead.

If I remember what I learned from economics class correctly, market capitalization is equal to the number shares times the price of each share.

While Apple may be bigger than Microsoft by looking at market capitalization, market capitalization itself is only one way to measure how powerful a company is and it's influence.

Also, this might be only temporary as what's driving Apple's market cap is the price of the stock currently which can fluctuate very easily.

They can get some healthy margins on each iPad as they did on the iPhone. A better business model than Microsoft's, there's nothing more one can say...

Saw this yesterday and, honestly, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Microsoft is a software company first and foremost...they don't build PCs for the most part. The only real hardware that they put out is the Zune and the Xbox.

Apple, on the other hand, you can't buy their software without buying their hardware, which the grossly overcharge on. With the release of the iPad, I was kind of waiting for it to happen...but I can see the backlash against Apple coming the same way it did against Microsoft.

Shoddy business practices and gestapo tactics...it's just a matter of time before the most blind Apple elitist realizes that their company has gone from a corporation that makes commercials about going against Big Brother, to actually becoming Big Brother.

It is probably just the ifad caused by the ipad. When people realize its just a oversized iphone they will wonder why they have it.

I tried one and it can't do 1/4 what by laptop can do. And they cost the same. And don't get me started on the DRM.

Similar to AOL with internet, you have no freedom of choice other than what they give you... that's no choice, that's not freedom.

Apple deserves what it gets,, and it's truly anti-competitive practices will come back to haunt them.

However,, with that said,, I don't really blame them,, they can lock themselves and their customers down as much as they want. There are choices other than Apple out there that are just as good. Accomplish the same things. So, I don't necessarily begrudge them for their Business Model, My problem is, their moaning and bitching about MS all these damn years while they have been doing the exact same thing and far worse.

If this were an Apple world and no MS, you would have 1 model Cell phone, 1 model Laptop/Desktop hybrid.

Apple are a Technological Tyranny.

And their OS = Security through Obscurity. That too will one day catch up to them.

I can careless about apple. Sony is bigger than microsoft in console sales but Xox 360 is still better than PS# by gameplays and graphics. Apple products are just capped. Ipad is just a gigantic itouch with limited capabilities. What i am saying is that, in my opinion, Microsoft is better than apple. I prefer windows than macs, xbox 360 over ps3 and wii, mp3s over ipods, and i prefer Droid over iphones.
