Apple Inc has pushed out its first-ever automated security update to Macintosh computers to help defend against newly identified bugs that security researchers have warned could enable hackers to gain remote control of machines.

The company pushed out the software on Monday to fix critical security vulnerabilities in a component of its OS X operating system called the network time protocol, or NTP, according to Apple spokesman Bill Evans.NTP is used for synchronizing clocks on computer systems.

Still, this speaks a lot about OS X not really having as many problems as Windows, being the lesser targeted operating system.

Exactly why I use Windows Phone. Who in their right mind would target such a small platform (on the large scale of mobile platforms).

I use to use a device that ran the windows mobile platform; but no longer. I dont like the newer windows phone setup. For computers its one thing; but to me the newer windows mobile o.s. is a joke. I also went to android; but couldnt stand it because it always froze all the time and was always glitchy. So finally i switched to ios and have had very few issues compared to android etc.

People who want to make easy money :) For example you buy a well known anti-virus app to scan and protect your phone, but does it really scan files and protect your phone? No, these guys took advantage of the fact that AV companies had no product yet for Windows Phone. And people happily pay for it. More fake antivirus programs found in Google Play, Windows Phone Store - PC World Australia

Personally I'd never get an Android phone. Maybe a Windows Phone. But the safest is for sure an iPhone (non-jailbroken)

The only advantage iPhones have over other phones is iOS being basically a "port" of OS X, and I give strong Kudos to Apple for that accomplishment.

But since their phones are just so expensive, and I've already witnessed how bad Android can be, WP was the only solution left. I don't regret it, but if Windows 10 doesn't change some things, like, dramatically (on phones, that is), my next phone will definitely not be WP. In the end I'll just buy a cheap feature phone for calls and use an iPod for everything else, cause at least that's more affordable.

On the PC side, I used to dual boot 7 and OS X before my last desktop died and found myself using OS X 99%, going back to Windows only for the games.

I like OS X too. I got a free year of a paid AV for it but it never detected anything. Well nothing is ever found on my Win systems either, maybe because I'm very cautious. I never allow JavaScript and plug-ins for all sites by default for example.

I really like the OS X possibility to limit installs to only those from the Mac App Store, or + "identified developers" if you want. That's another huge difference between Apple and others. They do a great job reviewing new apps/versions before they're accepted and made public. The review process may take a while which sometimes can be annoying if you're waiting for a critical update, but it's a small price to pay for security.

Yes it's more expensive but IMHO worth it.

I remember trying out alternatives to Safari on OS X and found that some browsers have two versions, an AppStore version and a direct download with more features. That kind of put me off using the AppStore for some of the more important apps, figuring that direct downloads from the developer website must include more features that Apple, for some reason, doesn't allow in the store.

The first app like that I've come across was the Sleipnir browser: beautiful piece of software on the Mac.

Yes it's more expensive but IMHO worth it.

Its worth doesn't really matter when you simply just have NO way to afford it. Ever. *sigh*
