Apple takes a few shots at Windows during WWDC09

Given that the internals (the actual part that makes the notebook run) of the MacBook are of no better quality than the competing Dells, Toshibas, Sonys or HPs, the only thing that the Macs have is a pretty shell. It is pretty, and quite sturdy, but don't tell me that the internals are any better, and that's what matters.

PhreePhly

lcd panel is still internal, and i (again I, myself), havent seen a notebook with the same quality LCD my mbp has (the one on my old macbook white was like the ones on regular notebooks tho).

its like an S-IPS from my dell 20 inch LCD fitted into a macbook, and the rest of the notebooks look like cheaper panels like those 2ms refresh gaming lcds with awfull viewing angles.

I don't really disagree too much with anything in your post two above.

But my point with the business and consumer readiness for Vista was just that it's unfair to criticize Apple for cutting support for pretty old computers, while Vista effectively cut support for nearly all their computers. I think both were justified.

Apple with the PPC chips were ridiculous. In fact, Apple of the 90s and early 00s was ridiculous. But ever since the iPod and the intel transition, they've seemed to have gotten their head on straight. Both Apple and MS have histories plagued by stupidity and anti-competitiveness.

I really like both companies and the work they put out. But since this thread has members crapping on Apple, I'm just trying to point out MS has done similar things many many times before.

But I don't think internals are all that matter. The internals are vital, like the engine and transmission, but past a certain point, it's all about comfort to the user. Light thin laptops are simply more pleasurable to use and handle, PC or Mac. Especially to somebody like me, who is a power user in how much I rely on computers for work and do tons of scripting and 'advanced features', but the things I do aren't resource intensive.

But this really isn't a Mac vs PC debate. It's a debate on if Apple is being unfair and deceitful to little ol' innocent Microsoft.

I think anyone with a bit of technical knowledge can see the dishonest nature of Apple's spots. In fact, a few of the early ones were banned in Britain due to their less than truthful claims.

PhreePhly

EDIT: I said that "I'm a Mac" commercials were banned, which is incorrect. Only certain G5 and iPhone commercials have been banned. But the point stands that they stretch the the truth so far, that it has broken a few time.

I don't think MS has had an ad banned for false claims.

Sorry, but the upgraded LCD in the Dell Studios are actually better than the current MacBooks. The rgbLED in the Studio XPS 16 is even better than that.

No, Apple dosn't even have the LCD edge, anymore.

Just so you are aware (and because I started the thread), I have nothing against Apple, nor am I crapping on them.
My intention was to point out that Apple likes to crap on M$. Is this fair? Are they right? That is part of this thread.

Most here seem to think that the Apple commercials are lying, or at the very least stretching the truth (almost to breaking). Perhaps it is true, perhaps it is not.

What is clear, is that Apple has the edge in Media (including portable music players), but not much else. I think my laptop has a very nice screen, though I don't know how good a mbp is. I just compared the 13" MBP laptop, which was priced (base) about the same as the laptop I just bought. The MBP 13" had no dedicated graphics, a 2.4 GHz CPU (same as me), a 100 gig HDD, 2 gigs of RAM. Mine has a 17" screen, NVidia 9600M 512, 2.4 GHz CPU, 250 gig HDD, 4 gigs of RAM. I also believe that the quality of the notebook is just as good, if not better, as an Apple MacBook Pro.

The fact stands that Apple is losing the Hardware edge in POWER. NOT performance. The reason for that is because their Hardware is SO limited. They did that because they narrowed it down to sell only what works best with their Software. Becuase they build all their computers (and don't let 3rd party manufacturers in) they can control that much better. If they did what M$ did, their computers would be more expensive...........

Hi guys!
New guy here interested in win7.
I've stumbled upon this thread and i find it funny when people talk about macs being "better built". Last year, my gf bought a white macbook and the case kept cracking. Some of my friends from schools who had a mac also had this problem with the aluminum case as well as safari crashing when multitasking with photoshop and of course "revit architecture"(my major is architecture).
And this makes me ask whoever owns a mac in here, how can you say it is good quality and better built than a dell/HP when my gf's macbook has had more issues and more visits to the apple store than my hp laptop?
I guess if you want value for your money on a mac, a refurbished unit is the best option(macbook pro 15" 2.4Ghz with free snow leopard upgrade(when it comes out) for 1300). In any event, I also heard Windows is solving the memory hog problems with vista which would ultimately increase battery life(yay for us!). If that's the case, then my 1.7 Ghz core duo 15" widescreen will last me for a few years as i keep multitasking without any issues.
I own an hp dv6000 series with no crashes and no viruses or spywares(What websites do you guys visit that get spywares and viruses?) since late 2005 and I'm typing on this laptop at the very same moment.
Now, that i was looking for an upgrade, I was considering snow leopard since the OS is stable but multitasking is still bad even on the macbook pro, i've discovered windows 7 release and have been following up until now.

Onto the main topic: Both companies bash each other and fanboys from both sides will always come out to defend each, even though there are MANY problems that many mac-users and windows-users won't tell you yet they praise the OS like there is no other. But this is better for us! More competition, lower prices.

im definitly not a mac fanboy, since i have 1 macbook pro unibody (definitly the best build quality ever), 3 current gen pcs (built by me), another 3 old pcs, and 2 notebooks. (the point here, is that i have more PC than mac XD)

i had a white macbook in the past... it was nice, but my gf just bought a compaq cq40-305, and it has a better lcd panel than what my white macbook had :P (it seems cheap lcd panels have gotten better overtime :P)

now, build quality of the unibody family, is unbeatable, then comes sony, and now dell with their new studio and XPS (by new, i mean the newer models).

the white mac was never that nicely built.

pd: my core i7 with 6gb runs like a dream on windows 7, its SUCH a pain when i have to go to work, and i have to use a pentium 4 3.06 ghz with HT there :P

Anecdotal evidence means nothing. I'm in the middle of trying to get an overheating hp tablet fixed that's been sent for repairs 4 times in 3 months for a host of issues, spent hours talking to customer service, not able to understand their accents at all, only to have them straight out lie to me, treat me like an idiot, case reps not calling back when they say they will, it's hell. I'm considering taking it to a small claims court if it can't be resolved.

Apple support has always been excellent and courteous to me.

I don't really think anybody in this thread is being an apple fanboy. Apple has its faults. Microsoft has its own. PC OEMs in my experience absolutely suck. They are to blame for most of PC problems. This HP tablet I referred to just had its HDD re-imaged by HP, and half of HP's own software doesn't even work correctly. How they became #1 baffles me.

The Get a Mac campaign has exaggerated, but many of the scenarios are absolutely true, and it's not all about crapping on PCs. Several ads have demonstrated all sorts of features on a Mac.

in terms of apple vs microsoft, a viewpoint of the uk market.

I have never seen a tv advert for either company, maybe microsoft years ago but certianly not recently.

I see apple macs a lot in tv shows and movies.

I dont know of anyone personally who uses a apple mac, dont know of any companies either. It is said here that vista's main competitor was actually windows XP, since XP was so good that people will see no reason to upgrade.
