Hi,
WHen ever I try to play my new game, I get an error that says: "The application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." This game is Grand Theft Auto 4. I did the SXSTrace.exe and got my log. It's attached. Can someone tell me whats wrong???

Hi,

I think this might have to do with Microsoft C++ Redistributables being outdated/corrupted, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll asl Nimiero to have a look at this thread as I think he can read the SXSTrace files.

Regards,
Golden

Thanks. Control Panel says I have VC++ 2010 installed, if that helps at all.

OK. I've asked Richard to have a look at this - look out for his reply. Other might also offer some suggestions.

Out of interest, have you experienced any other issues with the PC at all?

Nope. But I guess I wouldn't really because I just built it over the holiday weekend and haven't had much time to use it yet!

Mmm. OK, one last suggestion from me...but I'm clutching at straws now until Richard sees this: lets scan for corrupt system files using SFC.

1. Click Start Orb
2. In the search box type cmd
3. Right click on cmd.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'
4. Click 'Yes' when UAC prompts you.
5. In the Window type sfc /scannow

This will run a check on the system integrity and report any errors - it can take a while so let it finish.

Regards,
Golden

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

· Please download and install the following VC++ Redistributables in the following order: 2005; 2005 SP1; 2008; 2008 SP1, 2010

Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64)
Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64
Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64)
Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)

Once you have done that, please re-start your computer, and tell if me the problem persists.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

P.S. I know this takes a little bit of time to do, but I would recommend persevering, because it almost always is the solution. Basically, with these Visual C++ redists, you need all of them, not just the latest version. If you are missing one, you can get the Side by Side error you are receiving. Since I don't know exactly which one you are missing, installing all resolves all problems, and prevents problems in the future.

EDIT: Well done on building your machine. Its specs looks very nice, and I hope that you are enjoying it! :)
