Hi All,

I'm having real problems finding a decent calendar application...

I've recently bought myself a Sony Vaio E11. I am going away with work for several months and wanted something small and compact that I can watch some films on and access my emails/skype etc.

However, I will need access to my calendar and won't always have an internet connection.

I use GMAIL and have found the 'GMAIL Offline' app for google chrome to be really efficient, that way I can look back through emails whilst I'm on the go and reply/or compose a new email and it will send when I'm connected to the internet. (I don't fancy using a client like Outlook or Thunderbird for email as it downloads the emails off the server, and eventually, with the thousands of emails I have that will take up a lot of space).

However, the Google Calendar offline mode is useless. I can view appointments but can't edit or add events.

I have installed Thunderbird with Lightning and even tried Sunbird. Yes, they allow bidirectional syncing with Google Calendar, but ONLY when you're online. If I am offline, my calendar displays blank.

Any advice on how I can combat this would be great!

Many thanks,
Amnesia

Hello Amnesia and welcome to Seven Forums.

From what I've been able to find out, Google Calendar will be read-only offline. It won't be possible to create, edit, or delete events. You are only able to view events and reply to existing invitations.

I found a free hosting site that may provide what you need insofar as offline editing is concerned. The also offer some instructions (they seem rather dated) on how to use iCal for offline editing of calendars. Perhaps this will give you some additional ideas.

Thank you marsmimar, I will check out the links you have sent.

I understand that Google is only read-only offline (it hasn't always been, so I don't know why this has happened).
However, by using a 3rd party (like Sunbird or Thunderbird/Lightning) I thought that would be able to store any events I do make, then when there is a connection, it will sync with Google Calendar. It can do this online, so I don't know why it can't do it offline.

Any luck with this?

Hi Amnesia

I found this thread googling since I have the same problem.

Have you found a suitable app for this?

The best thing I can think of currently is to edit calendar events on my phone (I use the stock Android 2.3 calendar app) while I'm offline on my computer, but it's very inconvenient.

I use a Mac 50% of the time as well, and similar to my Windows 7 situation, I cannot find a suitable calendar app that syncs well with google calendar....
