I reformated my hard drive and did a recovery from my external hard drive. Everything
went pretty well. As far as I can tell everything came back. The one thing that does not work is application files from the programs that require web access like IE,Chrome,
Foxfire and others. only a few local programs can be started by the desktop icon or the actual exe file in the program. Help

When you say you did a recovery, what did you do? Did you do it through the built in Back Up and Restore feature, or did you copy all your files onto an external HD and then copy them back?

I made a backup image on the 14 december 2010 on external hard drive,so when the computer would not start up on 23 december 2010 , I formated the "c" drive and loaded my recovery disks back on the drive. I wanted my original programs and all my old stuff that was on my computer so did a recovery from within windows and loaded the image from my external drive back to "c" drive. a few programs are okay but most will not start. Also, on start up it has a few errors like IAANOTIF.EXE 0x000007b,
BAGENT-APPLICATION ERROR 0X000007B, SHSTAT.EXE APPLICATION ERROR
0X0000005, UDATERUL.EXE APPLICATION ERROR 0X0000005 , RUNTIME ERROR '339'
IEFRAME.DLL.
WHEN WINDOWS STARTS A WINDOW COMES UP AND SAY "THIS IS NOT A GENUINE WINDOWS " BUT IS THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE COMPUTER.

Unfortunately, I do not know what the problem is. My only idea is to try restoring from your Windows install DVD.

To fix the "This is not a genuine Windows" problem, follow these steps:

  1. Locate your Windows product key. If Windows came on your computer, then this will be on a green sticker somewhere on your computer.
  2. Click on the Start button and type Activate Windows.
  3. Click on the first Control Panel option in the search results.
  4. Because I have already activated my copy of Windows, I don't know what this window will show. My guess is that it will ask for your product key.
Hope this works! Please report back if you have any problems.

Update For The Problem

I took care of the problem by removing the hard drive and tossing it in the nearest
dumpster, buying a new one installing it and am waiting on the arrival of my Windows7 64 Professional program disc. Hope this fixes the problem.
