hi there,,

I am using windows 7 64 bit here, and often I will try to install something, and instead of installer UI showing up onscreen, it will be minimized to taskbar, with it flashing.

I'm asking here because <buyer beware> I bought win7 at ebay and wasn't thinking of tech support, and I m between rock and hard place as M$ wont help because its OEM, and OEM wont help (asus here) because it wasn't preinstalled on a 'desktop' system I had bought from them, though I do own a asus AI motherboard. Great huh-

Anyway thanks anyone for help with this odd behavior.

cheers
lee

I get that sometimes, If you click on the taskbar icon it should bring up UAC asking if you want to allow... whatever you're trying to do.
As for where you bought it, as long as it's activated and validated you should be safe.

That part I knew, I just meant <sorry if not clear> how do I stop this behavior and avoid taskbar entirely so it asks me in my face so I always see it ;)

thx ;)

You could try saving it to desktop or where ever, then run as admin from there.

I personally believe that this minor glitch is due to the way the application or installer is written - A lot of applications were written before the UAC was part of the OS and so do not actually cater for it's presence. Windows does a good job of intercepting the calls to present the UAC in most cases but does sometimes produce the minimised icon.

As more programs are written to expect the UAC prompt I believe that this issue will become rarer, so It's just a matter of time rather than anything that may be tweaked.

I somehow want to believe your description of problem is accurate, but given that I just downloaded maya trial edition <brand new from a well respected vendor>, and when I started installer, it minimized to taskbar immediately.

I could contact audodesk but I dont want to waste their time if it really is a issue with uac/win7.

P.s.-I dont know if it matters, but I used 'run' to start installer, as directed on their website.
thx
