Last year I purchased an Acer Laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit).As per instructions I created a Backup of the Win 7 OS on the first day(3 CDs) if it becomes necessary to reload the OS.
This year I was looking around in the Safe Mode(a place I rarely visit) and found a Menu which contained a REPAIR COMPUTER in Recovery Management to RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULTS

Are the two methods of restoring the OS equivalent? Is there an advantage to restoring with CDs over Safe Mode FACTORY DEFAULT Restoration?

What you discovered restores from the Recovery Partition - from where you also burnt your DVDs. So it is the same.
