Some users of windows 7 claim that microsoft security updates are not necessary. They claim that their computer runs faster without them. Are there members of this forum that ignore the updates without problems?
Hi Huck,
In my humble opinion yes.
Most people became infected in 3 ways.
They open a message attachment
Download what they think is a safe program
or visit an infected site.
Either way the code is injected into your comp, partially due to the lack of dilligence of the user,
me included i was multi-tasking at the time. but in my defence it was none of the above
Now there looking for other ways that are not so user reliant, ie OS orientated and the patches that MS are issuing are to stop these.
Why do you think there are so many AV and AM companies are out there.
Roy.

I do not update because the last update I installed emptied all of my Office folders messed with system restore and I had to reformat my PC. MS did over ride my never settings when I tried to install Office and MS Essentials for the WLM, but it only installed what I needed. I have a friend who has never updated and never had a virus and she has had computers a lot longer than I have. My first was W 98.
As long as my system is working, I install no updates at all. They are just a source of new bugs. And the so called security updates are probably the most useless kind.

While all the complaints about W 10, someone said that they were going to send the spyware on 10 to W 7 in an update. That's another reason for me not to update.
I think these security updates just slow down your Pc and if you use good anti spy and malware (free)than they are updated all the time when new problems get found, a bit like M$ security updates but often faster.
When you are a careful user of the internet you're fine, my simple opinion.
I think we'll have to do a check on all members logging into our sites to ensure they are fully up to date with all security updates, we don't want any innocent member being infected with some nasty :sarc:

It sounds like you really believe that those updates protect you against something.
It is like those fairy tales that suggest that cerial is good for you. I hate cerial and made it to 80. If you eat cerial and are 80 it only proves that cerial does not kill you.
