if you get your theme from a reliable source it shouldn't be a problem. I have used a few different themes and none of them were viruses or slowed down performance

When you say 'Virus Content' what exactly do you mean & how are you visibly seeing this?

Themes are 100% safe depending on where you get them from. There are a lot more graphical elements to Vista/Se7en themes so that would account for a slowdown in XP

I feel like jumping in.

Themes usually do not degrade performance. Occasionally you'll find that things do not work as intended and DO degrade performance but most themes do not.

As was said above, make sure you get your themes from a reliable source. :)

I had vistaglazz on my computer twice, and noticed it was slowing down my computer's preformance, so I uninstalled it. I had to do a system restore because it wasn't booting right.

As long as you know what you are getting from who, and you scan it before you install it they are generally beneign. There are some that will tax resources.
